So just found out I may be spending time in San Jose in the coming months- specifically near the convention center I think. Anyone know anything about the area/beer available? Likely no car.

Bring down Boneyard and deGarde and let the beer come to you instead. =P

I really got to start a San Jose/Silicon Valley Thread...

Original Gravity, ISO, and Good Karma are walking distance from the Convention Center. All are good choices and worth checking out.

Mission Creek Brewery is also on option at the Whole Foods on Alameda, but may be a little farther walk.

Mission Creek is maybe 5 minutes away in an Uber or Lyft and is definitely worth visiting. Great spot with plenty of food options and tasty beers.

Mission creek is actually amazing. Their soly series is amazing. Also the bars listed above are a must. All have as good a draft list as anywhere else in the world.

Add O'Flaherty's to above list. And their tap list is on their website so you know whether it's worth the 6 minute walk from Good Karma

Will you have a car? If not, ISO Beers is really the only place in the downtown area that may have "to go" sales worth checking on a flight. If you do have a car, Maplewood Market & Liquor is my favorite shop - its a bit further away (Campbell) but I consider it worth the extra couple minutes.

Edit: sorry, read your original post on no car. Personally, would just stick with grabbing drafts at ISO Beers, Original Gravity & Good Karma.

Farmers Union is an excellent restaurant/ sports bar with a decent selection of beers. The downtown SJ area near the convention center is more of a club/liquor scene. The University is close to the area also. I beleive Gordon Beirsch is within walking distance.

Hermitage Maltopia is a truly great beer on draft. Not as much in the bottle but really a treat on draft
