Anything worth checking out in the Sandy Springs area? I know all about Hop City, Ale Yeah, etc.

I've got to kill a good bit of time up there this weekend and wanted to see if there were any hidden treasures. I vaguely remember a so-so Total Wine near the mall--any smaller stores or liquor stores with better than average selections?

Sprayberry Bottle Shop in Marietta, Olde Crabapple Bottle Shop or Greens. They are all a little drive but good ones

Can't recommend Sprayberry Bottle Shop enough. It's not the biggest shop, but Brij and Chris carefully select the beers they carry. They've done a great job of furthering the cause of craft beer in the suburbs, and they deserve recognition. Only hitch is that SBS is in East Cobb and not Sandy Springs.

Ale Yeah in Roswell. 5 minutes from Sandy Springs.

Parking is a little tricky for Ale Yeah - for first-time visitors. Perhaps call them for advice.

Tricky? Huge parking lot in the back, traffic light at either end of the lot, and a back door entrance.

True, but for a first-time visitor that might be a bit tricky as - in the vicinity of the town square - the street address numbers are hard to read while dealing with traffic. I am not trying to discourage anyone, I enjoy visiting Ale Yeah (both locations) when I can. Just trying to be helpful.

Ale Yeah is a solid choice for you. About 10 minutes north from there Old Crabapple Bottle Shoppe (corner of Crabapple & Houze) has a respectable selection too.

And I'll agree with the above- I'm a Sprayberry Bottle Shop loyalist too. Brij & Chris are great.

thought I'd revive an old thread rather than starting a new one. a few questions....

Sprayberry still the place to go in the Sandy Springs area?

What about a taproom/brewery worth visiting in the general area? Willing to venture out a bit.

We'll be flying into ATL and will have a couple hours to kill before heading up toward Sandy Springs, but probably don't want to go too far out of the way. Looking for a great taproom/brewery to get some quality beers and food.

Nothing has changed. You'll pass through the city on the way up to sandy springs. Choose your poison. Stay on the perimeter or go thru town.

There's no food at breweries and you have to tour to drink. But it's possible. Sometimes a food truck around.

Check out ponce city market area. Think a place has taps and good ones at that. Crowlers and on site serving. Plenty of food there too. Greens beer store within a block.

Sprayberry isn't in Sandy Springs, it's father NW in Marietta, so not 'close'. Ale Yeah! Roswell would be the most direct route and closest to go to.

Brewpubs in/around Sandy Springs you have 5 Seasons Prado, and further North in Alpharetta is Hop Alley. Breweries, Gate City and Abbey of the Holy Goats are both in Roswell. Check tour times, GA isn't anything like any other State in regards to breweries. Bars, not very much in the way besides the Taco Mac Prado, which isn't anything great. Good beer list (if they actually have any of it), but dirty lines and horrible food.

Thanks for the replies, I had no idea you couldn't drink at GA breweries (w/o taking a tour). Good to know, and I'll probably just skip. So beer bars can sell Crowlers to go? I'm sure people ask this all the time, but are cans/fills of Creature Comfort beers attainable in the area?

    Thanks again!

Check out Krog St Market. Hop City Beer store (usually need to hit it at the right time to catch Creature Tropicalia cans, Athena usually readily available), a separate sitting area with taps outside the store (possibly couple Creature Comforts options), and various food choices.

Bars cannot sell crowlers to go, but brewpubs just now got passed for growlers.

    Creature Comforts, it's a crapshoot.
