Almost ready to start brewing on new 10 gal flat keggle system. Last problem (today) to solve is how to clean and sanitize the pumps, CFC and hoses. My first thought is to daisy chain the hoses and recirc oxyclean and then sanitizer through them and then plug the ends of the low temp wort hoses that won't do double duty with the hot liquor tank.

Kinda ghetto, but I hook everything up (via quick connects; immersion or plate chiller) with about 5 min to go in the boil and start recirculating while the wort is still boiling. Never had issues with hot side aeration/oxidation or infection (Knock on wood). Will continue to recirc to whirlpool and then when chilling needed, will turn on water flow to the plate/immersion chiller via a second pump.

Your method is probably safer and smarter.

You have stainless? While my wort is boiling away in my kettle, I'm CIP'ing my mash tun & RIMS tube with PBW/oxyclean followed by a quick forward direction flush of my plate chiller. everything is followed by a quick shots with starsan.
After chilling is complete, I run PBW/oxyclean backflushed through plate chiller & kettle to CIP those. Everything is followed by a quick shot of starsan. Obviously the starsan is really just to neutralize the PBW/oxyclean. Everything is then clean; hoses, pumps, tuns & any other equipment i've used.

Does that really work? I know that they are opposite on the pH range, but I'm not sure if that means that star-san would strip a surface film of PBW. The only way that I've been told to rinse PBW is three rinses of clean water at or above the cleaning temp.

Don't get me wrong. I hope that it's true. I'm pretty diligent with mixing chemicals at the proper amounts. I even use a syringe to measure star-san. I didn't like the eye balling one gallon batches. But there really doesn't seem to be a firm ratio for PBW. When I'm doing a CIP I'm normally working with a gallon or less. Would be nice to have a reassurance rinse.

Telejunkie is right. One Star San rinse will clear more alkaline residue than 10 water rinses.

    Great news. Thanks.

Here's my current plan: use barfdiggs method during kettle recirc followed by telejunkie method after brewday is complete.

Time management is going to be a little tricky until I get used to my new system. I use a lot of US-05 and whirlpool hop additions, so the last 10-15 minutes of the boil is already pretty busy.

Hope my cheapo CFC outer hose can take the 5 min recirc with no cooling water.

Hey Telejunkie and skivtjerry. Thanks for the tip.

To clean my kettle I use a sump pump into a chain of all of my hoses and then into the outlet of my kettle. The water fills the kettle and cascades down the sides. Well since the sink bottom is sloped it cascades more down one side. With oxi and PBW I always had a ring the needed some minor coaxing to remove. I did a rinse (same method) of a weak saniclean and no ring.

FWIW the MT just gets non-scented liquid detergent and elbow grease. The RIMS uses less water and harder to get into so it will might get the proper ratio acid.

I'll usually give a hot water rinse after the pbw/oxyclean as well if I can, but always finish with saniclean (starsan). For me the MLT always got the elbow grease...but then realized I might as well utilize the cleaning solution and saniclean solution i will make up for brewdays to clean those items as well. FWIW, I have moderately hard water and find that using PBW for cleaning 1 brewday for every 4 brewdays cleaned with oxyclean works well for me.
    Cheers!
