We are traveling to Santa Barbara area from Midwest. Obviously know about the many great wineries (for my wife) but interested in good local breweries (for me). Any ideas?

To expand on this a bit, here is my best attempt at a comprehensive list of breweries in Santa Barbara (including Goleta and Carpinteria, which are each within 20 mins of downtown SB):

    Telegraph
    Pure Order
    Figueroa Mountain
    Island Brewing Company
    brewLAB
    Rincon
Hollister Brewing Company (brewpub, but really solid beer)
    Captain Fatty's

Two others that aren't open yet, but may be by the time you are out here:
    M-Squared
    Third Window

And then of course, if you're willing to stray a bit further from Santa Barbara proper, FW Barrelworks is in Buellton, less than an hour from downtown SB.

Thanks for the great ideas. Will post an update on what we do.

    Lando77,
Your best bet for great beer is Firestone Walker. You should also consider an empty bag to check at the airport. You will want to bring home many brown boxes to share with your neighbors. Remember, great beer is better when shared.
