SARA names new head brewer (former head brewer, Jon Drinnan, just left).

We’re excited to officially introduce Michael Megill as our new head brewer! Michael joined us back in September after working for nearly two years with our friends Cellarmaker Brewing Company and has quickly proven to be a huge asset to the team. We are confident that Michael’s curious nature and years of brewing experience will serve us (and you) quite well as we enter this next chapter. Welcome Michael and, as always, Sante!

Just got back from trying Left and Leaving (SARA knows what to do with Simcoe!) and Dear Jon Letter (A total homerun!), the two beer sendoff they did for their former head brewer. Looking forward to see how Michael will continue / evolve the SARA portfolio!

    New announcement via instagram:
They’re still doing the online sales within California, but they will not sell anything to you at the window unless you have a Santa Cruz county ID.

Makes sense. Not a great idea to drive to another county for some beer during a global pandemic when it can be shipped directly to your house.

Ya. That’s exactly why they did it.
On the bright side, it helps encourage people to shop local.

Don't get me wrong I love SARA, but selling only 24 units of their bottle pack at a time?

Like either simplify the package and have more units or hold a lottery. Every time I see it and by the time you get on the site it's already sold out.

Dude, they had pivot to a shipping company. Tim talks about it in an IG post. They have limited capacity.

I saw those videos and I totally get that, but they're also shipping cases of IPAs, which has to have higher yields in the bundles they're sending as it's 3 different releases together. Even if only a portion is being shipped, back when taprooms were opened some of those cans would be available for weeks.

As for the second video Tim posted limiting of Santa Cruz residents only for local pickup, one would think there would be a much larger surplus they need to move. If sourcing boxes is the bottleneck then, sure, that makes sense, but maybe increase distribution of items to the local craft beer spots to help make up lost revenue.

Again, I'm a huge fan of SARA, but that doesn't mean they're immune to constructive criticism.

FFS at this point there should really be no bitching, complaining or even “constructive criticism”. Just take what you can get and say thank you.

24? i think that was for the more limited stuff for locals only (westly last week, and effects this week) the 3 packs must be in the hundreds, i know a lot more than 24 people that scored some

to me the fact i’m even able to get any right now has me kicking my heals! and with the cans and bottles the shipping they charge is less than a tank of gas to get there and back for me

and speaking about cans lasting for weeks, there’s a mix case still for sale right now. anyone who wants it got it. and i must say, this batch of tomorrow today is fantastic!

Not to jump in with an argument, but just to clarify. if you follow their Instagram, they put up a new post almost daily. They are pretty thorough about the details of their products and releases.
You can also tell they’re under a lot of stress.
Right now alcohol sales in general are way up, but as people are losing jobs, running low on money, and pausing to drink their stockpile, craft beer is expected to take a big hit.

My trio of goodies arrived. Ended up springing for the Recency Effect, since I'm convinced my wife would absolutely love it. I didn't really need another West Ashley, but I'll take it!

My box is apparently on a GSL truck somewhere here in SD. I am waiting patiently while in and out of meetings.

Nice, I got my box yesterday as well. Saw on the IG post that they are all new batches, is that correct? So that's Batch 2 Beauty Sleep, Batch 4 Recency, and that West Ashley is 19?

Beats me! I wish they dated or something, because I have 3 different batches (with this shipment) of West Ashley at home and I'm not sure which is which. But... that's not a horrible problem to have...
