Finally going to make the trek to Sapwood Cellars in early August. We are swinging by on a Sunday (August 4), staying over, and then hitting something like Ocelot > Aslin > Bluejacket (I know, I know... not entirely forum specific) over the next Monday > Tuesday.

    Specifically regarding Sapwood, though....

What is their food truck situation? Pretty reliable? I've seen that they do have them, but can't find a confirmation regarding the date in question. Doesn't much matter what the food is, save for an onion buffet, because, well, they're gross.

I see a clump of reasonably priced hotels about a mile away. Hampton Inn, Residence Inn, Sonesta Suites... is that a path that you can walk safely? Also, is there a strong Lyft/Uber presence in the area?

Any other tips or tricks that I should know are also welcome. Thanks in advance. Similarly, if you want to be a rebel and discuss a bordering state (northern VA) regarding Ocelot/Aslin.... I won't tell on you.

You may want to include Black Flag and Hysteria both in Columbia area, not far from Sapwood. Don’t forget Aslin is now in Alexandria. Cheers

We'll check out Black Flag and Hysteria, for sure. Definitely a bit of a drag considering the 12-8 hours of Sapwood and then .... what else does one do for the night? Of course, Sunday - Tuesday isn't ideal as a travel span but we get that. It's all good.

I did notice the Alexandria location as the one to do some drinking at, rather than just pick cans up. We may still hit Herndon on the way to Ocelot, but I guess that is selection dependent.

    Thanks for the suggestions.

It seems like Sapwood has a food trucks most Thurs-Sun. They usually put them up on their website weekly.

It's possible to walk there from some of those hotels off 100. A little over a mile with sidewalks the whole way. You shouldn't have a problem getting an Uber/Lyft either though.

Is there a specific reason you're staying overnight in Columbia? Baltimore is only about 25 minutes away and will have way more things to do in the evening that are beercentric or otherwise.

    Yep. Sapwood Cellars.

We've been to Baltimore a bunch. Never been anywhere in Columbia that wasn't Merriweather.

Ok, if that's the case, probably the only things to do in that area open at night are the mall and the casino. Victoria's gastropub should have local brews on draft, particularly Manor Hill (another brewery somewhat near by in Ellicott CIty) since they're owned by the same family, and you can probably find a similar lineup at the Ale House as well.

Not sure if they've recovered fully after the latest flooding but Old Ellicott City might be worth checking out as well.

Personally though, I would just make a pit stop at Sapwood, take a rest or eat a meal to sober up, and drive on to DC if you were set on skipping Baltimore.

Sapwood usually has food trucks, but you can also bring food in with you or order food to the brewery. They will have local menus of restaurants that deliver if you ask.

There is plenty of lyft / uber in columbia. It's possible to walk but not super safe. Uber would be better.

Black flag and hysteria are many steps below sapwood.

To answer your questions about walking from the hotels you mentioned, yes - totally safe area. not sure if there's a sidewalk the entire way, but it's safe around there.
