When fresh White IPA is really good, though recently a step down from the first batch they put out.

Shared a buncha beer and talk at TAP two years ago with the guys who run their pilot program and they are trying to step up their game to compete with the better beers out there. No doubt they are succeeding with Legacy, Prism, and White. Even their Pale Pale, and Kolsch are decent beers at an exceptional price.

The wild hop pils is made with Belma hops. They are soooo damn delcious. I loved that beer last year and I will have this variety pack to get more. :grinning:

Saranac beers are all pretty decent, but not extraordinary. There is a niche for beers like that. For example, if I am getting together with some friends who are not all craft beer nuts like me, a Saranac case might make everyone relatively happy.

Now that looks good...! And I'm sure it's very reasonably priced. I think I could drink this all summer... now if I can just find it! The Legacy IPA has been elusive!

Much as I'd like to support a regional brewery, I think Sam Adams varieties (or even Yeungling) are a better option. About the same price, substantially better (personal opinion, of course), and something that a lot of "non-craft" drinkers will still try without putting up a big stink.

I’ll agree with SA. I almost always get one of their autumn mix cases and one of their winter mix cases each year. I generally pass on the spring and summer cases as they contain too many styles I do not like.

Yuengling is another story. Nothing they make is terribly bad, but I have had enough “Lager” to last a lifetime. I’d take a Saranac case over Yuengling any day.

Folks can pick all the bones they want, and that's fine—I get it, and agree with a fair amount of it. But Saranac was definitely my gateway to craft, for the same reasons people keep buying it: It's different, it's new to the majority of beer drinkers, it's a huge step up from BMC, most of it is really not that bad (if not actually pretty solid), and it is reasonably priced. So yeah, a lot of folks keep buying it, and it's probably going to stay that way.

And personally, if and when I get back to NY this summer, I'm very likely going to buy the shit out of this:

What's the story with Legacy IPA? It's listed as "brewed once" here, and reviews start in early July of last year - and are still continuing in. Plus it's being mentioned in this thread. Was it given another run or something, or are people actively seeking out a nine month old IPA? Sorry if that sounds like a really stupid question...

Well said! Saranac doesn't get enough respect on BA.

Yeah, I'm a little frustrated with these guys, they keep putting on Facebook that they're distributing Legacy IPA but I've yet to see it.

Personally I enjoy Saranac's mix packs. They make good summer BBQ beers since none of them are high in alcohol. I will definitely seek this one out to bring cans to the lake this summer.

Recently had Prism on tap and liked it quite a bit. Ordered another pint. Crisp, good carbonation, with a nice bite, and dry finish. I hope Saranac will make this offering more wide spread this summer.

Legacy IPA was on my store shelf for a while now. Since I did my review of it. It's a four pack of tall cans for $7.99 or so.

I had one last year when they were "hiding" them in the 12 packs... it was VERY good and I've been watching for it ever since. The distributor was in the bottle store when I picked up my EVL Stainless Steel Obsession sixer last week and I mentioned it so maybe it'll be there next week.

Prism was a very nice surprise, I don't generally care for white ales, but this one drinks very easily and it quite good. I've seen 12 packs of it in Olean. No Legacy, though...!

I've only seen Legacy 4 packs in NY. Don't know how close you are, but if you want some, I'm thinking you're going to have to go there.

I live in PA right on the New York border and I work in NY, so I buy 99% of my beer in NY. The seasonal packs and a few others (e.g. Prism) are pretty available, I'm not sure why the Legacy IPA hasn't made it's way to Olean.

I bought elicottville's octoberfest and was pretty impressed and then I too became a fan of the steel obsession.

Those "stray" cans of legacy was deliberately put into saranacs mix packs. I think it was one of the greatest marketing gimmicks ever. They introduced the beer to their loyal customers in a mix pack called the brewers dozen.

It should be in regular distribution state-wide. Just picked up a sixer in bottles. My bottle shop also got a couple of cases' worth of fresh pint cans
