I’ll bee in Sarasota for about a week. What is a good liquor store in the area, and how late do they stay open? What beer is a must find right now? what place would you suggest is a great place to eat at? Thanks for all suggestions.

What beer is a must right now depends on what styles your looking for, as is your recommendation for food. Total Wine often seems a bit sparse these days but I just got Jai Alai that was 5 days old so that for me is the beer to get at the moment. ABC is worth hitting up because sometimes they have stuff that has been out for a while still around. Do you have a car, and down with driving a bit? If so please go to Pegs in Gulfport. 7clutch is right on about Mr Beerys by far best bar around. Eat Here in downtown has good food and springs to mind right now, but there are a bunch of other places as well, people seem to love Owen's Fish Camp for seafood (it's been hit or miss for us).

Yes we will have a car. Mr. Beery’s was a place I did go to last time we were down there and will be hitting it again for sure. I’m really not limited to any one style. I really like just about any beer. I’m still kicking myself for passing on a bottle of CC Seabass a few years ago when I was down there. As for Food I like to try places that look like they are where the locals are going to and less for the tourist. That said I did enjoy the Salty Dog and that has to be more of a tourist place. So, any place anyone has enjoyed please let me know about it.

Lucky Pelican in Lakewood Ranch has awesome seafood and they have Jai Alai on tap. Total Wine and World of Beer are right down the street (Exit 213) University Parkway.

Morton's Gourmet supermarket by the Hospital has an excellent selection of beers as well. It's only a 10-15 minute ride up 41 if your at Mr. Beerys.

I used to live literally walking distance from that place and never ate there. Went once, but they were closed for some reason that day/time and I never went back. Maybe that was a bad move on my part.

My parents are down there and they do Total Wine University Park. I can get you names of good fish places but that's all they eat out. Peg's isn't that far IIRC. eta It's farther than I remembered, but I would drive to Cigar City and Peg's and be Ok with the drive.

Also, Shakespeares makes some really great burgers and their beer cheese dip is awesome, and they always have something good on tap (weirdly they pour everything in full pints, really Narwhal in a 16 oz pour, OK). I have never been to Lucky Pelican, but I think I will have to check it out.
I just opened a Sea Bass at Huna day just to share, I may have one lying around if I do I'll BM you, when are you coming down?

CCB along with Bush Gardens is also on the places to stop. We’ll be heading up to Tampa one of the days.

Well, Total Wine didn’t have much. Not even a 6er of CCB Brown. Oddly enough there is a grocery store right by it that had a fairly nice selection. My CCB Brown in a can tasted just as good, if not better, as I remembered it in a bottle. Jloomis thanks for the offer, I did get to try it. Dan I’ll be on the look out for you. Not sure when we will be there. Hit the dog track last night. Did well. The wife is a wine drinker and we picked up a bunch of FL wines as well. Truthfully to all you Fl guys, this Maduro Brown is so darn good how do you find the time to drink anything else?

That would be Fresh Market. I was just at TW Thursday and they had Maduro brown in the cooler next to the Jai Alai.

Dbtoe. Went to mr. Beerys last night. Probably won't need to go back for a few. Need a lil recovery time. If you can make it up there tonight, they will be pouring glasses of CCB Moat Water (one time brew). They have a bunch of bottles, not for sale, but pouring glasses as a fundraiser, starting at 8pm. Beerys also has a nice little bottle selection and some 750ml's for taking home, usually a few CCBs too. Not sure how many they have at the moment but pretty sure at least one Cucumber Saison left, plus other brews. You can always get 32oz growlers from any of their taps too, although can be a little pricy (paid about $16 for 32oz Ten Fidy last night). I know they had White Oak Jai Alai on tap last night and Omnipollo Nebuchadnezzar DIPA. If you prefer a certain style I can tell you what was on tap as far as last night from my memory. If you want to go on Mr. Beerys facebook page and send them a message asking what CCB bottles they have, Mark, the owner will usually get back to you pretty quickly, hes super friendly.

Or if you want, I can send one of the beerys guys a quick msg to find out what they have for you (normally the bottles will be a few more $ there than you see in store obviously) I think the cucumber saison was about 12-13$ for the bottle. Also if you want to check out World of Beer Sarasota they often do free lunch and dinner cookouts. Tomorrow they are doing a Chili cook off and serving free chili. They are located right off University Parkway right near I-75 and often have a few CCB cans and drafts. Right now their app says Hotter than Helles, White Cracker, Maduro, Jai Alai for cans and Patio Tools Nitro on tap

    Oh and for food...
Burgers- Chi Burger (on US-41, I believe in plaza behind Olive Garden)
Late Night- Munchies 420 (as seen on Man Vs. Food, home of "Fat Sandwiches", 10lb heart attack on bun. Around corner walking diatance from Beerys)
Reubens/steak sandwiches- HH&DD (next door to Mr. Beerys, awesome loaded tater tots. A bit pricey but well worth it and Rocky will deliver to your bar stool)
Pizza- Ricos (huge pizzas right around corner walking distance from Beerys)
Deli/steak/steak sandwiches- Alpine steakhouse (great food, also on Food TV, home of Turduken, on US 41)
Yoders Amish Marketplace has amazing food and makes a great lunch (closed sundays, in sarasota westfield mall south of mr beerys. Try "build a sandwich' roast beef on sourdough AMAZING)
Ice cream- sweet beeries (great frozen custard. On stickney point/ clark rd in plaza corner of Swift rd)
Tex mex- Tijuana Flats (chain restaraunt but not bad. Couple minutes further down Clark rd. In publix plaza corner of Clark and Beneva roads)

    Hey Sarasotans -

My wife is in Sarasota for the next few days and I'm trying to put together a short list of stuff for her to pick up for me while she's there. Her access to beer will most likely be limited to the Whole Foods, but she might be able to hit a better beer store if the selection there isn't that great. I'd probably be most interested in getting some good local IPAs and maybe some under-the-radar shelf gems from the area.

I've had Jai Alai once, but I think it was old, so I'm probably going to have her grab me some of that, especially now that it's canned. Maybe some Sweetwater 420? Other than that, I'm pretty in the dark about what's good from the Sunshine state. Thanks for any help & suggestions.

Hit any Publix supermarket for CCB canned stuff and also have her hit Total Wine and Spirits on University Pkwy. they have pretty much all FL distributed beers there.

I was at the total wine in sarasota yesterday (on University). Terrible FL beer selection. Only CCB beers were Jai Alia, Maduro brown and Hotter than Helles, only in cans. Not a single bomber of CCB stuff. Only 2 saint somewhere beers, one swamp head beer. Big disappointment. If you have the time head up to Luekens in Dunedin for a real beer selection.

Although they did have Jai Alai canned on 4/18, which is nice.
