I thought this area around Saratoga Springs was a little far afield to drop request into the Catskills thread. So here we are. Any brewery recommendations in the area? Not really into sours or smoothie beers but anything else is fair game. Seems like a decent number of spots in area, but unsure about options to hit too many so gotta prioritize. Appreciate any insights and advice!
In Saratoga proper, Whitman is the best. They always have a real nice mix of beers, do everything very well, have a goddamn beautiful taproom and their Detroit-style pizza is one of the best things to eat in Toga period. Unified Beer Works is one of the best spots in the Capital Region and only 3-4 miles from Toga. They excel in IPAs and sours but also generally do great with stouts and lagers too. Plenty of cans to go here too. Next door to them is Active Ingredient, which is another beautiful taproom and their beer is generally very solid. Good variance on the taplist RN with a kolsch, a festbier, some IPAs, a coffee porter (this is a certified banger BTW) so if you're gonna go to Unified may as well do AI too. Please ignore the beer store in front of Unified, it is trash and they do not deserve your money. Back in Toga but a bit off the main drag is Artisinal Brew Works who I like a lot. 20+ drafts and while IPAs and sours are for sure the focus they do Belgians and some other classic styles well. For beer bars Pint Sized is the A-1 up there. Draft list is kind of small (10 beers) but they've got coolers full of cans and you can drink anything on site. Absurdly good selection in that can cooler. For drafts you'll wanna do Henry St. Taproom and their food bangs too. For beer to take home hit EBI. Massive selection, great prices and you can do single cans/bottles of anything in the store. Hope that helps!
