I live west of Regina. Wondering where the best liquor stores are in Regina for beer variety. I've been in the one in the east across Joeys only. Are the private stores good? If so where are they? The Moose Jaw liquor store is good but Im starting to run out of options
Wow. Saskatchewan. OK. I'm gonna stop right now complaining about the lack of good beer stores in Pittsburgh....
There's a Willow Park Wine & Spirits in Regina, if it's at all similar to the one's in Calgary that's probably the place you want to check out.
Willowpark in Regina is lame, not sure why they even opened a store there the shelfs we all empty when we visited there.
Hey jcubz, thanks for the question, I'll do my best to give you a run down on where you might find something you'll like. First, let's start with the SLGA stores... the one on south Albert Street (actually closest to Moose Jaw... take the Albert Street off-ramp off the #1 highway) has a reasonable selection of craft and imports. From what I've seen it's the best selection of any SLGA store in town. Any of the stores will have something, but the south albert store typically has the widest selection. Go to the back of the store and there's a shelf on the right hand side with the good stuff. Next, Willow Park... used to be a decent store to go to even though many times they would be out of stock, at least all of the selection was craft or import. Now half of the cooler is Molson/Labatt/etc. You can still find some interesting beers from time to time. Sometimes you're lucky and sometimes not. This store is also on south Albert Street, just a few blocks from the store I mentioned above. Lesser known options are: Bushwakker's - they have a cooler to take home their beer and some other beers for take out. Beer Bros - you can buy some of their beers off sale, but there's no dedicated beer store, just go into the bar and ask. Travelodge off sale (south albert) - haven't been in here for a few years, but they used to have a few belgians and some american craft options as well. That's about it. Every other place is pretty hit or miss. For the most part I haven't seen anything interesting on a consistent basis. That being said, I go to the places mentioned above because I know I'll usually find something I'll like, so I don't go to the other place much for the past few years. My best suggestion is, get on the #1 Highway and drive 700 kms west instead of 70 kms east and go to Willow Park or Zyn in Calgary. Good luck and good beer hunting!
Rebellion Brewing Co will have growlers available when they open this fall, 3 blocks east of Bushwakker.
Late September early October is the word. They have a Facebook page where they do give aways and give updates to what's happening. I personally can't wait to see how they do. They gave out samples and they tasted amazing.
To all you Saskies that still haven't decided to make the Alberta plunge(hehe jk), I am originally from Regina but now live in Calgary, I also frequently travel back to Saskatchewan and could move some *cough* serious numbers of bottles back to you folks as I always have tons of storage room in Van or Truck. PM me with your info and when i make my next trip i will look you all up. I also frequent Interior BC so have access to some BC only stuff.
North Albert St liquour store doesn't much to write home about. I remember seeing Rogue's Dead Guy, Flying Monkey's and then some local beers. Bushwakkers definitely a place to check if you can get onto Dewdney. I was not having a good time finding good beers until I drove by there. Outstanding brewing there.
Rebellion Brewing Belgian Wheat has launched in Regina today, Saskatoon tomorrow. Draft only. Couple more get launched next week. And the week after that. And the week after that.
Winstons has the exclusive launch today. I'll be there here and there, but definitely from 7-8pm, stop by and say hi!
