Heading down there this weekend. Wanted to check out some bars. I know about the http://distillerysavannah.com/, wondering if there is anything I should look for?
It's probably too late but I recommend Moon River Brewing. As of last Friday, they had a fantastic Belgian Tripel aged in cabernet wine barrels on tap. To die for!
Past the weekend, so I hope you had a chance to hit the Distillery. Amazing bar, great bar tenders, excellent food (only the best sweet potato fries) and of course the best craft beer draft selection in town.
I visited the Distillery and was disappointed. Their craft selection wasn't that amazing for a beer bar, and they were CLOSING down at around 11:30 pm on a Saturday night because "we're more of a restaurant than a bar". Really. Most of Savannah is hopping until the wee hours and the best beer bar in town closes down before midnight?
This past Saturday night? I know this will sound like an excuse (more like a reason), but the head bar tender gages when to shut down by how big the crowd is. And they are more like a restaurant with a kick ass bar which rotates the taps every few days. You may have caught it on a "not as steller" rotation, too. I'm a college student who has grown fond of craft beer. The only other bars that I know of that have that kind of kind of quality draft selection are Moon River, The Crystal Beer Parlor (and they have a small selection if I remember right), Wild Wings sometimes and maybe two more. The other bars in DT Savannah are geared to college students who drink Miller or Coors or Bud Light and who want to dance. The Distillery isn't so bad once you take all that into consideration.
It was also SCAD Graduation. The Congress St. Bars near MLK were super busy. Most SCAD kids like PBR or mixed drinks. They haven't found the respect for beer yet.
I thought the Distillery was pretty good. Had a good selection and kept me happy for a few hrs. I didnt make it to Moon River. It was right next to the hotel also. Guess will add to the list for next trip. Place was pretty crowded with SCAD graduation. Also seemed like it was bachelorette party weekend. I was sitting at the Rail and there had to be at least 4 different parties that came through there
Went down on Tuesday with the hope of hitting up the Distillery that night, but as it was our anniversary and the missus doesn't like beer, I didn't push it. Did make it to Habersham Beverage on our way out on Wed. Really good selection, but unfortunately very little that I can't get in Charleston, so I grabbed a couple of bottles (Lagunitas Cappucino Stout and Saison du Buff (Victory version)) just so I didn't leave empty handed.
Visiting in a few weeks, anyboy been to World of Beer yet? Good? Overpriced? Go to The Distillery instead? Did a little searching around on here and hadn't found much talk about it. Thanks in advance.
was there on opening weekend. Awesome spot, 2 story bar up top. Price is relative. Drafts from $5-10 bottles from 3-20 (bomber). Place was packed for the 3 days i was there.
