I know we are beating a dead horse here, but FWIW:

I attended Hunahpu's Day and had an absolute blast. Got in queue around 10:45 and through the gate at 11:20. I immediately bought my allotment of beer and hit the lines. I sampled approximately 15 beers (rum pineapple Jai Alai being my favorite!). I stood in line trying to get DB hunahpoopoo to no avail. People were triple fisting glasses and cutting line. I hate to see this event end as it could easily be fixed. Please reconsider as this is always a fun event!

It's not even about the beer at this point. I'm gonna guesstimate and say that at least 70% of those people don't give a shit about that beer. At that point it's just an event that they can "check in" to on facebook and say they are there. Most of those people wouldn't be able to tell the difference between Elder or Younger.

It's great from a marketing standpoint. Terrible from a beer fan standpoint.

Next year el cat plus one only(name on each ticket), each btl is etched with el cat number(cut back on resells). Pre buy btls before day(3btl limit and pick up whenever you want that day) no case sales. Barrel Aged all the left over Huna in Apple Brandy Barrels.

Because all great beer should be kept to a special club and not distributed to as many loving fans as possible.

I'm sure that's what all brewers want for their beer.

Yes and I will if I can. Also other breweries do limited releases for members only and it works.

They only do that because that specific beer most likely can't be made or isn't profitable enough to do on a large scale. Hunahpu doesn't have that kind of problem as they've already proven by saying they will distribute.

I'm all for a small release. But to say only a select group should get it; well that's stupid.

Everyone and anyone should have the chance to enjoy a beer. If they have to release it like Marshall Zhukov then so be it.

I say el cat only not because it should be for a select few, but because if you act like an arse they know who you are and you get kicked out and your membership is revoked. That's all no other meaning behind it.

Just make it draft only. Cafe Americana didn't have a problem getting enjoyed and they didn't bottle that. Hell, it was at the growler station for weeks at a time.

But then they lose out on bottle sales.

We just got Tequesta Brewing Company to be the first official brewery to support Save Hunahpu's Day page on Facebook. They support Cigar City and our cause. Cheers.

What do people think Huna would cost through distribution (buying off the shelf)?

    $20 at the tasting room.

Who knows at mom & pops.

Wasn't it El Cat members that were up in arms over linking names of tickets in the first place?

It was, and as an El Cat member I was completely cool with the name on ticket is the person getting in idea. It wasn't every El Cat member that cried. Part of the problem was so many El Cat members are not from Florida and they all wanted to be able to have a trustee/ pay a person to go using their ticket and buy their bottles for them. CCB should have just stuck to their guns and none of us would even be having these discussions. We would all be planning next year and talking about how awesome it would be.

I like the idea of no bottles at the event. Have a day thats a celebration of the beer, tons of kegs, several different variants, some great non- Huna beers on tap as well. But make the whole event draft only no growlers ( not the whole batch, just what's available at Huna day). It would be an awesome event and would discourage the bottle seeking secondary/resale market from showing up in masses.

I went to Huna Day in 2012, and even at that time I thought it was a Clusterfuck of douchbaggery and vowed Id never go back again. However, if they did a draft only, no growlers release day celebration I would strongly consider revoking that vow and attending. It would be a completely different atmosphere, at least I think so.

I was one of the El Cat members who definitely did not want the ID requirement for that reason. But an easy solution would have been to still require the ID, but allow the purchaser to choose the name of the ticket holder at time of purchase. That way, you could still send it to a trustee but only the trustee with ID could use it. There was an easy middle ground there.

As far as bottle sales, maybe I'm oversimplifying it, but it seems rather easy to make all bottle sales online and then provide some type of window for pickup. That was how all extra El Cat releases worked and it didn't seem to be an issue. Granted you're talking larger numbers, but Black Tuesday works like that also. I'm sure websites will crash, but everyone seems to understand that as just the nature of the beast. I don't recall any small-scale riots when folks got shut out of BT. With bottles already purchased, there would be no issues with crazy lines and whether or not you'd be able to get them, even if the pickup did occur at the fest (although having a separate pickup window would probably be better).

Draft event only and distro bottles = money made and problem solved.

Couldn't they just add a name field to the ticket ordering?
