why not do it like kbs is doing this year? have a little kickoff party during TBBW where you have an event to celebrate the beer where people can get their limit of 2-3 bottles (whatever it may be). then after 2 weeks, the beer goes into distribution.

I'd like to see bottles stay, but require pre-purchasing. Once someone buys a ticket, they get the opportunity to pre-pay for however many bottles CCB sets as the limit. Pick up bottles on the way out of Huna Day. There would be logistics involved to get it right, but it's doable if CCB wants to do it. Of course, if they don't want to do, then they shouldn't. They should put on a kickass event that they feel good about pulling off.

Must buy a draft hunahpu in order to buy a bottle.

Yes! Then everyone leaves hella shitaytayed with six bottles in hand. That's definitely going to lead to no issues and a raging success.

Exactly. Drunken helicopter hijackings, dogs dragging sleds through sand, neckbeards rejoicing through the beer bonging of excessive imperial stouts. Nothing could possibly go wrong.

Agreed! I had to plea to Todd to get this thread unmerged with the promise that we wanted to show support for the brewery. I got sidetracked arguing and for that I apologize.

The main goal for us is to attempt to show Joey, Wayne, and everyone else at CCB that we want the bottles to stay an event only thing and not let them go to distibution.

By creating this thread, and the Facebook page, me and Heatwave's ultimate goal is to try and keep the bottle sales but of course we would still go to any event CCB had a part in!

Hunahpu's day is a solid event, Wayne is an excellent brewer, Joey is a great all around person, and the employees have all become friends of mine. Simple as that. Save the day. Drink local. Support the brewery that paved the way for every other of these Florida guys to have the opportunity at recognition they enjoy.

I think it can be saved if there's the will and momentum to do so. I'd be happy with divorcing the bottle sales from a festival event and say enjoying the first pouring of Huna and all of it's special treatments without worrying about bottle sales. Joey can time this to happen before bottles hit distribution by about a month or so.

More security and volunteers to prevent all the tom foolery, pre-printed tickets with a holographic to prevent scamming and a cap on the crowd size. It can be done if there's a will to do it.

This has been such a bitter pill for Joey and the rest of CCB to swallow. I think the spoonful of sugar should be investing that refund money into El Catador 2.0 and/or other CCB purchases. I certainly didn't expect a full refund and as far as i'm concerned, that money belongs back at CCB.

This is my first post in the whole Hunahpu event. I still don't understand why they HAD to let people in? I have never ever been to a ticketed event that just lets anybody in. Besides Woodstock, I cant recall or dont know of an event that just let people in. Maybe put up some barriers to keep an orderly line and if a ticket is fake, don't let them in. It really doesn't seem that hard to accomplish.

It was a judgement call to try and avoid having people that actually followed the rules getting stuck on the outside looking in, which would've probably been worse. Since they had no way of telling if the ticket was fake or real, there wasn't much of an alternative.

The people following the rules wouldn't have been stuck on the outside. Don't want to be stuck on the outside? Don't buy a second hand ticket.

Me thinks you give politicians and/or gov't employees too much credit. The decision to shut down any future Hunahpu's Day(s) was made on Sunday, the day following the 2014 event. You can hardly find a gov't employee / politician willing to work on a weekday, let alone a Saturday / Sunday.

Now, it may be that prior years' complaints from the Mayor's office, could have influenced Joey et al's decision to nix Hunahpu's Day for the future. But, to think that the City of Tampa had any hand in a decision that happened 24 hours after this year's Hunahpu's Day (on a Sunday is the key) is a bit of a stretch.

You realize that they cut people off pretty easily. I've seen them do so in the tasting room many times. They won't let anyone drink 6 hunahpu's.

I think you missed the sarcasm in bacon's post! She works in the industry so i'm pretty sure she is aware that people can be, and do, get cut off.

i don't have much to add that is constructive, other than CCB is good people, and i really, really hope they decide to keep huna day, and just do it in a better format (maybe similar to KBS).

    If they do this.....

    They won't need this......

From an outsiders point of view, I love CCB beers and that is the problem. Some of us in this community have way to much Greed for their bottles and those who chase those bottles like rabid animals won't show up for a tap only event. I honestly don't blame CCB at all, I think the event totally exploded faster than they wanted to accommodate. Maybe Hunahpu's Day is more than they wanna fool with?

This is true to some extent. Most that attended went to secure bottles of the beer and i'm sure we're all guilty of loving particular beers and wanting them for our cellars. The others that attended were there in support of the people that love hunahpu (like my Wife) but had no interest in bottles other than to be a beer mule that could purchase an additional set of three bottles for the ones they care about.

I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with that. But, it's a case of supply and demand. With an unrestricted crowd size, there wasn't enough supply to sell everyone their beers that wanted them. Not to mention the open bottle sales starting at 4:00 pm or just outright abuse of Billy & Zeus and the other staff selling the bottles.

We can all point to what went wrong and how we'd fix the problems, but right now Joey Redner just wants to have an uncomplicated hunahpu fest from now on with no bottle sales. That sounds pretty good to me and i'd go to it. I hope that if he does send bottles to distribution that he also expands those sales to the El Catador club just prior to the bottles hitting distribution and disappearing into the void. At least if you sign up to be an El Cat member, you'd get a crack at a few bottles.

I fear once the beer hits distribution channels that at least a half to two thirds of the beer will wind up in wholesaler and retailer private collections before it will ever see a shelf in a store. Production of a beer like this is quite limited (around 16,000 bottles approx. this year by Joey's maths) and regional stores will be lucky to secure a single case. That'd be twelve bottles. Figure the employees and owners of bottle shops will want at least a bottle of it, if not more, and it might not ever see a shelf at all.

    Boo to that.

If they cant tell the difference between a fake ticket and a genuine ticket, then again, huge failure on CCBs part. How was there no protection against fake tickets? I am assuming there were valid tickets and invalid tickets, but the people scanning them either had no training or didn't have enough balls to "reject" a fake ticket. That would be problem number one to fix. No valid ticket, no entry, just like every other ticketed event in the world.
