Does anyone else have a collection of empty 750ml beer bottles. I always keep a new bottle of brew I try out or keep the ones I think look cool and have interesting artwork. I might just be a hoarder but do you guys keep your bottles?

    No

I did keep a Uinta birthday bottle for a little while because the colors were nice. I tossed it in the recycle after a few weeks

I do have the first two years of the original sucks bottles sitting around

    Enjoy

I save 1L flip cap bottles because they are amazing for homebrewing. Unfortunately, I can only think of one brewery that uses them (Howe Sound from Vancouver). Right now I have about 15 or so, which is perfect for 2.5 gallon batches. Half of them are from a buddy of mine who works at a liquor store and keeps buying their stuff.

As far as saving bottles I have a collection of only one brewery's bombers because they are custom made bottles and they have cool labels.

I did save bottles for a while but it got a bit impractical and I eventually settled on collecting caps of new beer I try whenever I remember to. Every once in a while I go through and filter out the ones I don't need (I can have multiple from the same brewery as long as the cap is distinct, for example Bell's has a unique and cool cap for damn near every beer they put out, same with Schneider). It's a pretty good size collection at the moment but it's still quite a bit more manageable than bottles. Cheers and welcome to the BA forums!

We downsized last year, and the cans, bottles, caps and beer fridge went bye bye...but keep collecting, I enjoyed my "collection" while it lasted! Cheers!

No keeping 750s (or other beer containers) here. Any available display space is already filled by books, CDs and a bit of antique glassware that has some sentimental value.

Haven't kept any 750s, but I do have a few 16oz cans, and 12oz bottles I'm saving. They'll probably all end up in recycling with my next move though. My first BCBS was great, but no sense in hauling around that bottle for life.

I am a bit of a hoarder though, which is why I'm working hard on not holding onto those items. My full bottles in the basement already take up enough space.

Don't usually keep bottles, the only one I have is a swing top growler from Foam that I got from a trip up to Vermont this past March. Just couldn't get rid of that. Beer was so good and I like the simple but nice looking logo.

I have my 'mantle of fame' in my cave in the basement. The mantle is a single shelf consisting of some of the bigger, favorite bottles (about 35 bottles) which I've acquired over time. I've found that when my friends come over for a drink, there's usually a bit of story about the bottles that they ask about. Kind of a conversation piece. And whenever I consume a bottle that I feel deserves to be up there, it can be fun deciding what's the bottle that's going to be kicked off the mantle.

I've never saved bottles. I did soak off a few labels 30 years ago to make some little framed "artwork", and did the same with some caps, but that was it. I have them somewhere, and if I find them I'll hang them back up. Quite a few of those beers, like Grant's, are no longer around.

I finally quit collecting bottles this year after 20 years of saving them. I have around 2,300 of them, with about 1,300 on display in my basement man cave and the rest packed away in cases. Make the decision now to commit to doing it right or to get rid of them. Only commit to saving them if you have the room to display them, and don't let it be in your living room.

I think the only bottle I still have saved is the one Westy 12 that I've been able to get, and I think I'm just hanging onto it because it was such a pain in the ass acquiring it:rolling_eyes:

I had a couple thousand myself before I quit collecting around 9 years ago. Now it's just all caps and coasters.

I keep 750s that have the artwork painted directly on the bottles. Hoping one day to cut the tops off to make candles, cups, etc..

My plan too. I'm also interested in turning them into light fixtures.

I have a few (like 10) in my tiny kegerator corner. Mostly stuff I got in Belgium or something I try to clone or aspire to with homebrewing (like Saison DuPont), had some of my homebrew labeled bottles but had a bottle shortage this summer and had to use those up.

I'm keeping some. Cantillon, The Bruery, Stone, Fantome, etc. But I don't like the way it's going. It'll become unbearable to have all these empty bottles lying around, that's why I've started collecting caps and corks for most of them. For the cans, thankfully it's really easy to take out the label and stick it on a paper, and cut around. It's good memorabilia. I've done that with a couple Trillium, Beerbliotek and Alchemist beers. It's good enough to know (and show) that you've drank that without the fuss of having bottles around.

Friend of mine wants to save a few as he has a glass cutter and wants to make mugs out of them by cutting off the neck. I worry about how smooth they will be after they are cut.

I'd like to make a couple ceiling lamps with some by cutting off the bottom, wiring in a bulb and hanging them.

From what I see online, the finishing stage, including some sanding, smooths these cut bottles out. I've thought about giving it a whirl, too.

If sanding doesn't do the job, then a propane torch that you can get at hardware stores will melt those sharp edges smooth. Probably will take a bit of practice, but it's the easiest way to do it.
