Have to agree. There was an off flavor in this one for me. Really disappointed. I've heard the Surly one is great but at least to me, this one was not.

How was Sour Fest? Doesn't seem as crazy this year based on the taplist and Untappd checkins.

Anyone hitting up Chuck's, 'Barrel Roller: The Barrel Aged Beer Event' ?

Little confused in regards to purchasing drinks. Per Chucks ticketing information, only "glass & ticket holders" can purchase drinks off the tap list on the first day (Friday May 20th). So, anyone can purchase tap list drinks on Saturday and Sunday at the prices listed on the digital board? What are the $2 tickets for? I assume these $2 tickets are strictly designated for the holders of the pre-purchased $20 tickets or $25 tickets purchased at door?

Looking over the tap list, I'm sure many people have already experienced most of the offerings. I'm looking forward to trying the following:

-Holy Mountain: Bourbon Barrel Aged Kings Head Imperial Brown – 2015
-Fremont: Coffee Cinnamon Bourbon Abominable – 2015
-Firestone: Stickee Monkey Central Coast Quad – 2015
-Bruery: Smoking Wood w/ Coffee and Vanilla – 2015

Not familiar with Lompoc or Skookum. Also wish Avery would have sent more options or possibly some rum variations. Is this a ho-hum list to some of you?

It's an interesting question, as this wouldn't be the first time I've see this sort of thing. For example, the last time I had girl beer, it was labeled as Cherry Fix at the parkway and eastside taverns.

This is just my two cents, so take it with a grain of salt, but after trying funky bunch, femme fatale and girl beer, my overall impression is that Boneyard needs to focus their efforts elsewhere. I get it that there's a current perception that making a great sour beer cements your standing as a serious player in the brewing community, but I'd like to think that Boneyard has long since cinched their reputation as an outstanding Oregon brewery (without the need to resort to that).

All of the "sour" beers I've had from Boneyard have been mediocre at best, and at least from what I was able to tell, were not big sellers at any of the beer bars I've seen them at. I remember asking the bartenders at the Parkway and Eastside about the girl beer/cherry fix, and on both occasions they tried to steer me away from it (something that almost NEVER happens).

At least for me, I really hope this is not yet another attempt by boneyard to make a sour, wild ale.

In regards to Chucks barrel roller:

If its like the sour event, you could still purchase the glass/tickets day of for $25, additional tickets in that glass were $2 and you could bring back that glass for $2 pours the next day.

You couldn't buy a flight/pour first day without a glass and the price board said N/A for pricing options. Following day they listed prices and allowed pours in non event glasses without the ticket system.

Maybe I read what you wrote above... are you saying I can't just show up today and pay for beers without the tickets? Thank you in advance!

    Thanks Morning Dew.

Yea, sounds like you will need a prepurchased ticket or buy a ticket today at Chucks. Interested how this will sit with folks walking off the streets tonight and simply wanting a pint or two. Especially with the Friday night crowds.

Or get an empty glass from someone leaving and pay $2 per pour. ;-)

couldn't agree more, but that's partly due to a) being really busy these days and not being able to go out drinking on weekdays b) not seeing any events that i really felt like going out of my way for besides stuff at the Masonry (which is not a convenient place for me to get to, which is a bummer because it rules) c) THIS IS WASHINGTON THERE IS AMAZING BEER LITERALLY EVERYWHERE NOW EVERYDAY which is why we're all jaded as fuck now.

I've been to a few SBW events, nothing mind blowing but still fun. I won't rag on it though since we normally get an amazing official beer.

And yes, the Masonry has been killing it, even if it I haven't been able to attend any of their events. Monkish, Jester King, etc. wow.

My evolving feelings toward SBW have more to say about me than they do about SBW. A few years ago I got excited about fancy barrel-aged out-of-market beers and rare treats. This year it's oddball nano offerings from around the state and crushing Field 41 at the Troll.

Those who have been on the scene for a long time are bound to have a different outlook than those who are new, but I for one am still having a hell of a good time.

Fremont's BBQ on the final day is always my favorite SBW event. Sad that I won't be able to go this year.

Well, my "condolences," then. That is probably more meaningful, but perhaps considerably less fun.

Kid from my daughter's preschool class. She'll have fun, and that makes me happy.

But seriously. Everyone should go to Fremont's BBQ, it's always awesome.

At that rate of evolution, what would you predict is in store for next year's SBW? PBR, or Rainier, under an I-5 overpass? If it's all about "having a hell of a good time," I'd suggest that's the most direct route.

In any event, I'm with you. Although fairly new to the scene, I'm already pretty much over 'The Rare.' There is simply too much great beer flowing freely here to be over-concerned with that which requires some significant fraction of time, money, and/or the soul, to obtain.

For me a good time would involve something tasting good. Y' know, something like Field 41... And not PBR. Or even Rainier.
