Hello all! I am going on a cruise with my family this summer. Will be spending 3-4 days in Copenhagen, so should have plenty of time to find things here, but my issue is that i don't know where to look other than the mikkeller bars. I'm not much for sours, but i do have a lot of sour heads back in the US, so i'd like to bring back as many cantilllon/ 3F/ Westy (not a sour i know) as i am able to. I am just looking for places that i might be able to find some of these things. Note: i will also be in Berlin (for only a few hours), St. Petersburg, Estonia, Paris, Prague,, As well as a few other places that aren't coming to me at the moment. Obviously this isn't the right thread for those places, but if you do happen to have some knowledge about where i can get good bottles in those places, advice is greatly appreciated. Also if anyone has any insight on policies as far as bringing bottles back onto a cruise ship, and going from country to country with it all, and then bringing it back to the US, that would be greatly appreciated. All i can find is that going back into the US, its a liter per person, and some very low $0.13 tax per liter after that? Apologies for this wordy post, but thank you for reading! Cheers
Copenhagen is a great place for beer. I recommend that you visit Kioskh on Sønder Boulevard, near the trainstation. 2-3 blocks from there you have Ølbuttiken that has been rewarded best bottle shop in the world. This is where the Cantillon Blåbær is released every year. If you like history I suggest you visit Carlsberg, they have a great museum. It's located in walking distance from Kioskh and Ølbuttiken. Since most of the countries you're visiting are part of the EU (except Russia) there's no problem to travel with beers. And as long as the beers are on the ship you don't need to do anything. Visit www.olbutikken.dk for more info. Have a great trip!!
Thank you very much for the input! i'm very excited about the trip, just stressed a little bit about getting so many different answers from so many different people on the best way to get the beers back to the US lol.
Related - Rick Steves had an article about Northern European cruises in Yesterday's Chicago Tribune. You may want to check it out for non beer related suggestions.
Barley Wine on Admiralgade 21 is also a good shop to buy craft beer – 1 minute from the walking street Strøget and 3 minutes from the Metro Station Kgs. Nytorv. What date are you cruising and which line? I actually work at check-in for several of the companies in Copenhagen, so I was curious. Kathleen
I'm cruising NCL and arrive in Copenhagen may 16th, then we depart on the 18th or so, and then we arrive back in copenhagen I think a week and a half later. What do you mean you work at check in though? Like for hotels?
