This 1.3-gallon Schaefer FreshKeg was thrown in free as an afterthought when buying some items from a guy thinning out his equipment. I contacted the manufacturer about re-using/filling and they sent a pdf that talked about hoses, steam, special tools and attachments, etc. Sounded like more than I'd want to do at home.

Anyone familiar with it? A local brewery wasn't.

Looks like a German slider keg, so you would need a German slider coupler. Simple right? Only it could be an A or it could be an M. Or maybe an S. But not the G, U or D. You would have to search for the specific coupler needed. Because couplers are meant to be standard so of course there are about six different kinds.

You will need a spear removal tool. Which is pretty hard to find for general sale. Only breweries work with kegs and the spear removal can be dangerous if not done correctly. It is called a spear, and it is locked in a keg that is filled with pressurized gas. I would wear a hockey mask just to be safe.

Cleaning the inside of a keg is no picnic either. There is a small opening for filling and draining. You can't really see too well in there. The cleaning chemicals are caustic.

Then dry, reinstall the spear and you have an empty keg. If you are a homebrewer you could put 1.3 gallons of beer in it before replacing the spear.

Does not seem like anything worth while. There is a brewery in Germany that would love to get their baby keg back too.
    Cheers

Agree with both of those.....the juice ain't worth the squeeze. If I knew where it came from I'd get in touch with them.
    Thanks for the detailed info.
