A handful of Schaumburg area BA’s have shown interest in starting a softball team. I think this is a great idea and am happy to spearhead the effort. Sign-ups for new teams in the Schaumburg league start Monday, July 14th. If we determine that we have enough committed players, let’s do this!

    Here are the details:

    Fees:
I’m a Schaumburg resident so the fee is $475, or $40 per player on a 12 man roster.

    Schedule:
Games start the week of August 10th
    Teams play 8 games
Top 4 teams enter a single elimination tournament for the championship
Game times vary (6:30, 7:30, 8:30, or 9:30 start times)
    Game:
    Men’s 12” softball
Monday – D league (lowest level)
    Or
Thursday – C/D (slightly more competitive)

    Location:
    Olympic Park in Schaumburg
1675 Old Schaumburg Rd, Schaumburg, IL 60173
    (Near 290/53)
Let’s decide if we have enough committed players to register by July 25th. We’ll need at least 12 to proceed. (We can field a team with 10, but inevitably players miss games for various reasons during the season. I’ve managed teams before and it sucks when you don’t have enough players.)

Ideally the team could meet for practice on Sundays. It won’t be mandatory but it’s fun, builds camaraderie, and definitely helps.

Here’s what I need to know by July 25th:

    1. Are you interested and able to commit for the season or be a sub?
    2. Would you rather play Monday nights or Thursday nights?
    3. Have you played before and what are your preferred fielding positions?
    4. Favorite beer styles for the occasional postgame bottle share and periodic “team meetings”? (Kidding…sort of!)

Players don't necessarily need to be affiliated with BA so if you know player(s) who aren’t on the site, feel free to invite them. We can use designated drivers. (Kidding…sort of!)

I hope we can get this done. Feel free to post your interest level or questions on this thread or message me. For any non-BA players, please message me their email address and I’ll communicate with them that way.
    Hey batter, batter!

I'm in for all games of a season.
Either Monday or Thursday is fine.
I've played most positions so it wouldn't matter too much, mostly infield on my last team also first base (I can scoop/stretch and grab some less than perfect throws to me.)
BA Barleywines before the game is my standard, bourbon afterwards. In all seriousness, it doesn't matter.
I'll see if I can recruit anyone from the office.

    1. Are you interested and able to commit for the season or be a sub? I would potentially be interested in playing. I currently play in Mundelein on Thurs nights and I think our season runs through the 1st or 2nd week in Aug. Not sure when the fall league starts but that will probably be on thursdays too, although I'm not sure if I would play in that or not. I live in Algonquin and work in Lake Forest so i would likely just drive to Schaumburg straight from work and hangout until game time.
    2. Would you rather play Monday nights or Thursday nights? Mondays might work better if I end up doing the Mundelein Fall league.
    3. Have you played before and what are your preferred fielding positions? Currently I play left or right center field but I'm a better infielder than I am an outfielder. Really I can play anywhere. Usually bat first or second in the order.
    4. Favorite beer styles for the occasional postgame bottle share and periodic “team meetings”? (Kidding…sort of!) Barleywine, IPA, Imp Stout, anything BA, all sours, old ales, pretty much anything really.

I will keep you posted as if we dont play on Thursday's I would gladly make the drive to the "Burg".

Any interest in playing Mondays in Schaumburg either way? That day isn't set in stone, just trying to assess everyone's availability.

oh and i'm typically OF, played slow pitch for years, would commit for the season, Mondays are probably better, and drink anything but typically shy away from saisons. although the new one from Solemn Oath, Foux de Fafa I did like. give it a try if that's your style!

I feel like we might want to start in the D league to begin with anyways. Its not like we are holding tryouts for who makes the team and who doesnt. Or maybe we should....

I can most likely be a super sub on Mondays and make about 80% of the games. Work travel will occasionally get in the way.

I'd be interested and my brother would be as well. We both prefer Mondays an don't have a position preference. We both played in a league many years ago.

We've got 8 players at this point and it sounds like Monday is the preferred day. I agree with the others who suggested starting the new team in D-league (less competitive) so Mondays are perfect.

I've seen a number of you at area bottleshares which is enough of a "tryout" for me! I'm also assuming that most of our players will more closely resemble Lenny and Carl than we will Lenny Dykstra so if you're interested and able to play for the season, definitely come forward.

I know a couple of us have plans this weekend, but is anyone available Monday, 7/21 to meet up for some batting and fielding?

I won't be available this Monday, I'll be on my honeymoon. I'm up for some batting practice anytime though. Who has softball bats?

Will have to get back to you about Monday but I think I should be free. I do not own a bat either.

12" softball right? I should have a bat. May have an extra glove if someone needs it also

Yes, 12". I will try to go buy a team bat, too.

I can be there for practice on Monday - where and what time? Also is Schaumburg ASA or USSA - I've been wanting to invest in a bat as well but some leagues are super sticklers on regs. I'll google this for myself too....just hate to buy a bat that you can't use in a game, which has happened to my buddies in the past.
