Does anyone know if Schell is planning on brewing Oktoberfest this year? I looked on their website. Their was no hint of it under their seasonals.

I know there's added distance and distributor relationships that cause it, but strikes me as odd that Schell's has value pricing in MN but it's priced as a premium product up around $18/12pk down here in IA.

Yeah...in IA it seems sixers of year round Schell's releases are around $7.99-8.99/each. Stag Series are usually $11.99-12.99/each and 12 packs about $16.99-17.99. It's a bummer, compared to what prices are in MN.

Have you seen Schell's Oktoberfest on shelves around DSM yet? I've been looking everywhere, but haven't seen it yet. It's through Glazer's too, right? They seem to be hanging onto things in their warehouse a bit.

$18 for a 12pk doesn't seem that bad to me. $9 for a sixer of a great beer? I'll take it.

That seems to be a high price, but I know that things have changed in the Iowa market in recent years (didn't the State of Iowa used to have a central beer warehouse for distribution of higher ABV brands? Always seemed very complex to me.)

For what it's worth*, retail price points take into consideration both volume in number of cases of purchase-per-package or beer family (sometimes 4x6 and 2x12s are mixed, but not always) from the wholesaler to the retailer, and also from the brewery to the wholesaler, and then there's the margins to consider. This sort of 'Three Tier' background really ought to be included in Beer 101 by now, as it's at least as valuable as 'Boycott Malternatives.'

P.S. *I'm only half-joking whenever I suggest that every bidding Beer Knerd should work retail for a year or two.

It's reasonable, but the discrepency across markets is a lot. 63%!

Master distributors also often add a fourth tier and an additional 20% to the cost.
