I wouldn't say I was impressed by this beer, but I did enjoy it. This is the first of this style I have tried, so I have nothing to base a comparison. It did have a lighter body and almost vigorous carbonation to it and I think it will be a great Summer beer. I did pick up on the coriander and a bit of tartness but the salt took over and it has a clean dry finish to it. This beer also fits well in a session with Maifest.

I picked up a sixer of it yesterday and had two of them already. I always like trying new styles and I'm a big fan of Schell's.

I agree that it will probably be a good hot weather beer but overall, it's not something I plan on buying more of. I've been drinking a lot of Schell's lately (I'm on my fourth six pack of the Stag Series Barleywine - which I love). I've had one other Gose and that was a couple years ago at the ABR and I can't remember who's it was (maybe Fitgers or Town Hall?). Anyway, I really liked that one - definitely had much more spiciness and saltiness than the Goosetown. I only picked up a bit of salt on the back end and really no hint of spice or lemon zest at all. Still love Schell's but this one didn't work for me.

    I love it.

It is not the Gose I would have made, but it's really quite delicious. Light citrus, a little tart, cereal grains and toast, salt cuts the finish and makes it refreshing and delightful. I may have to get a keg of it. It not the best Gose I've had, but it's fairly classic to form and delicious.

Are there any other goses available in this market? It would be nice to at least have some point of reference to compare it to

it would probably be comparable to Pour Decisions gose? they keep theirs pretty traditional I believe.

Leipziger Gose is available at most better beer stores in the Twin Cities. I saw it on the shelf at Zipps last night.

It's hard to compare too much, they vary a lot. Leipziger is probably the meter stick to measure by, fairly tart, light body, pretty salty. Pour Descisions has a few different treatments to the gose, most are pretty tame and close to tradition yet not as tart as the Leipzig and I found them a bit too salty. Goosetown is very light, pils-esque with a twist. There's also some real strange Gose beer out there, Cascade in Portland does some seasonal Goses that are full of spices, fruit, and some seriously strong acidity. The herk makes one, it's gross. I love the style, I just wish they were more common.

Fitger's Brewhouse will have a Gose on tap late spring I guess....

Wonder if I'll see this around in Wisconsin....
Schell's site almost ALWAYS says "Minnesota," but I get those things in WI.

I LOVE the uncommon German wheats!

Schell keeps working hard to convince me that they're one of my favorite breweries...

I just picked up a sixer of this, (I know I'm a little late in the game). I like this beer a lot; I usually don't like spiced beers, but this one is just right. Me like :grinning:

Yep, I had one the other night and really enjoyed it. The spices are pretty subtle. Nice work, Schell!
