Has anyone had it? I saw it in the liquor store the other day, and I was intrigued, but I'm always leery about beers that advertise "ale with spices." Not a fan of pumpkin beers or spiced holiday ales, though I don't mind coriander and orange peal in a wit. I want to make sure that the spices don't overpower the ale.
Not over spiced. Very easy drinking. Not much of a holiday beer which is great. Well worth the price.
Yeah they should not have labeled it that way as I became leary when buying it last weekend when I was in the TC as well but no it is not over spiced....just a real nice Belgian Golden Ale. I really enjoyed it and will be buying more when it hits my neck of the woods..
I'm guessing that, because the beer uses spices and so falls under the TTBs rule that "...any class and/or type of malt beverage that contains or is treated with (other than those recognized in standard brewing practices) flavoring and/or coloring materials and/or nonstandard blending or treating materials or processes..." it must be registered under the class "MALT BEVERAGE SPECIALTY" and has to be so-labeled with a statement of composition, they legally HAD to label it that way. The second pdf - Malt Beverage Labeling pg 16 - shows the various approved versions of wording for label approval for class "906 - MALT BEVERAGE SPECIALTY" beers and "Belgian Style Golden Ale Brewed with Spices But Not Overpowering nor Over Spiced" ain't one of them.
They had it on special last night in Rochester for $2.50/12oz tulip and I tried it before they tapped Darkness. I typically don't like belgians because of their yeasty quality, but this was a cleaner tasting one and I really picked up on some clove in it. I would probably get it again, and that is rare with me and Belgians.
Good Belgian Golden. If it didn't list the spices on the label, I would have never guessed there were any used.
