The Stag Series is back! After a long hiatus, release #10 is coming.

Before you get all worked up about a traditional brewery like Schell's making some pineapple, mango, coconut, poi, papaya, macadamia nut, spicy ahi poke, kona coffee, adjunct-laden stout, please note that it will be a traditional tropical stout more akin to something like this: http://growlermag.com/homebrew-recipe-ras-neckbeard-tropical-stout/

I am looking forward to this one. It's cool to see all the new beers coming out of Schell's this year, e.g. Keller Pils, Chimney Sweep with Cocoa, Baltic Porter, Imperial Alt, Cave Aged B2, and of course the Berliner series. Cheers.

I've yet to see the latest Cave Aged or Sampler pack with Baltic Porter or Imperial Alt anywhere around the metro.

The most recent Cave-Aged Barrel-Aged Lager was a New Ulm-only release (and maybe Mankato?). They had a very small yield relative to a typical Schell's releases Rumor is that some barrels had to be dumped because of off-flavors. I liked the original batch alright, but I thought the newer one really stood out.

As for the Imperial Altbier and the Baltic Porter, they should be available in the metro in the winter sampler 12 pack. That's my understanding, at least. They are sticking with the same model that they did for the last two variety packs: 3 each of Firebrick, Pilsner and two new beers only available in the sampler. It'll be like the Biergarten pack with Fort Road Helles and the krystalweiss or the Prost Pack with Keller Pils and Cocoa Chimney Sweep.

I have not seen the new sampler in the metro yet either though.

Just picked some of this up at Falls Liquor last night and stoked to add it to the beer menu for the Super Bowl. Anyone have a take on this beer yet?

Is this getting a wider distro? Would like to try this if it makes it across the border.

I have just had one bottle of it so far, but I liked it. Smooth, slightly sweet, mild roastiness. It's an easy drinker so it'll be good for a Super Bowl party.

I concur with this assessment but I wasn't wowed by it. Then again, I picked up the latest Caved-Aged Lager and drank one of those first before this so probably not a fair comparison.

I found mine in the Des Moines area before Christmas. I'm a little surprised if it showed there first before Minnesota. I don't have any insider knowledge but if it showed in Iowa I'm guessing Wisconsin can't be any different eventually.

I bought a six pack last week. I thought it was a good example of the Foreign/Export style, and enjoyed it enough that I plan on buying another six pack while it is still around.

Tried this one today and was just OK. No sweetness, no rum. Just got a fair amount of roasty molasses almost burned molasses. I have 5 left and won't be rushing to the fridge to get another one. Hope my super bowl guests drink this one up.

Wow, just had this today and it is now on my top 10 list, though disappointed it is a one-off. Very drinkable. I'll see if I can stock up on this before it is entirely gone.

I felt the same way about the BACA beer they released just before this. I absolutely loved it and am clinging to my last bottle.

I believe stores in the Twin Cities are starting to discount this beer to move it out. Unfortunately people do not buy stouts, even very good ones, in the spring and summer around here.

That beer should hold up fine right? I love close-outs on higher gravity beers. Got Summit 30th anniversary English Style Barley Wine for 3.99 a 4-pack in Brainerd recently....bought 12 and kicking myself I didn't go 24..

Great...reminds me of one of my favorite Barley Wine's Old Horizontal by Victory (which I haven't had in five years but remember fondly)....real caramel forward malt....great cigar beer...

I really enjoyed this beer a lot! I do hope they bring it back as a seasonal, or something. Great job to Schell's!

I was able to find one last sixer of tropical stout, snapped that right up. I keep finding excellent one-off regional beers including Summit Unchained #23 Dark Infusion Coffee Milk Stout and Lakefront My Turn Mike Hazelnet Brown Ale. Had to stock up on them also. Hopefully breweries are using these beers as trials and might consider bringing them back.
