    I'm even more confused, actually...

But whatever. Here's to the most badass state in the union!

Just being a smartass here but until a person can walk in a liquor store and buy a six pack of non 3.2 beer on a Sunday I am going to refrain from calling us the "most badass state in the union"....actually I may withhold that notion until we do away with 3.2 beer for good on top of it as it is basically light beer anyhow but it makes all the teetotatolers feel content that society is not wasting away getting smashed to oblivion....I digress

This is from my question in the Stag #8 thread. What is the connection to an older beer once brewed at Schell's?

Not necessarily a specific beer, just the fact that we will be barrel aging beer once again in our old caves below the brewery once again.

Here is the label. The description says: "This dark lager was aged in American whiskey barrels stored in our original, naturally cooled, 19th century lagering caves located below the brewery."

I wish I had a BA beer for every label you've posted on this site.
You must get an alert every time a label is approved huh?

This is out now. Drinking one as I type. Nice beer with subtle whisky notes. Priced at $10.99 a sixer at Haskell's in Chanhassen.

Having tasted it, can anyone elaborate on what the base beer is? Brewer Berg doesn't seem interested in doing so on Twitter but I'm curious, despite already being interested/eagerly anticipating the beer.

I would describe it as a Munich Dunkel Lager. Nice dark German malt flavor. Maybe a slightly stronger Schell's Dark or a less hoppy version of their Czech-Style Dark Lager would be a good comparison.

Sorry if I missed you asking.

It wasn't a style, per se, but just something I thought would work in a barrel. Fawcett Optic malt for some nice English malt, a bunch of Munich (pulling it in that Baltic Porter direction), an lot of Dark Candi Syrup just because, quite a bit of Fawcett Light Chocolate malt. There's probably something else in there that I'm forgetting, but that's the nuts and bolts of it.

Not sure what style that would make it? I dunno, some kind of lager:grinning:

Tried this over the weekend and really, really enjoyed it. I would say it lies somewhere between dark lager and baltic porter. Very flavorful with a nice subtle amount of whiskey barrel. Going to make a perfect campfire beer as soon as the weather cooperates. This is probably my second favorite in the series right behind the Rauchbier only because I have a soft spot for smoked beers.

@DaveBerg What's the ABV on this? Would you recommend aging some?

7.7% ABV. I don't cellar beers, so I never recommend aging, although I get that some people like to do that. I have no idea if it will age well or not (which is probably what most brewers should tell you:grinning:)
