Definitely agree it tastes like a Baltic. I put that statement in my notes. Definitely buying some to drink now and more to cellar.

I'm going to be up in MSP next weekend on business...what are the odds that this stuff will still be on shelves when I get into town?

Shouldn't be a problem. Some stores got a second delivery last week.

Schells is hitting it out of the park like a boss. This is great stuff. It is great when a beer and a barrel match up so well.

Finally gave this a try last night, I very much enjoyed it. Although it's still a lager which normally I can't stand and 90% of the time get an instant headache from them I did like this one and no instant headache. Note: it doesn't matter who's lager it must be something with lager yeast not sure but like chardonnay wine instant headache before I even finish one glass. I thought it was just cheap beer/wine but nope those two just hate me.

From which distillery did Schell's get the barrels?

Good question! I've heard they have another barrel aged beer coming up, and wonder if they'll use the same barrels.

I surprisingly found this at a place in northern MN tonight...two six packs left....I was going to buy both but thought I should try it first...bought just one sixer...stupid...I popped the first one around 10:30 and was blown away....thought about going back to the place and breaking in to grab the last sixer (I'd leave the appropriate amount of money to pay for it of course) but thought better of that idea. Guessing it will be gone by the time I can get there tomorrow afternoon.

This is a a great beer. Right up there with the Burton Ale as one of my favorites in this series.

Always described as American Whiskey which doesn't say much - but when Heritage Liquors received their stock they stated it was Jack Daniels aged... But that could be just as much wrong as it is right -

Only other shred of evidence pointing to Jack Daniels is on the official Schells YouTube video showing the barreling of the beer - The Song is "Old Number 7". It could just be a coincidence.

I wonder if there are trademark issues listing a distillery on a label?

Thought it was reasonably priced too considering the effort and resources it took to make this....I think it was $12 a sixer which I feel is fair.

Jim Ellingson writes about August Schell in the latest Great Lakes Brewing News. According to his article, the brewery has Jack Daniels barrels lined up for aging the next beer in the Stag Series, which will be brewed with 30% rye malt.

Jim was confused about the Stag beer and a future Noble Star beer. I haven't had any rye in the brewery for a long time.

Locally (Saint Paul -- I regularly support a couple of dusty packies) I've found the Stag Series between $9.99 and $12.99. Granted that it takes 'em both a month longer to get the beer as compared to the time it takes for it to drop in the *OTHER* city where the pretty people live, but I'm okay with that. The dusty mom n' pops sometimes special order me stuff. :sunglasses:

P.S. This one is definitely well worth a couple of bucks a pop.

I'm loving drinking this beer while grilling out this spring. I'm down to my last 8 bottles. How should this beer last if I really stock up so I can drink it all summer? I would think it should be fine if refrigerated.

Keep it dark and cool- refrigerator should be perfect, and I think this one will be drinking well for a while. Every time I have one, I'm just amazed at the balance between flavor and drinkability. Going to have to stock up myself.
