The Starkeller seems to be doing a lot more taproom only type things. This could possibly be a thread for them. This one has me very intrigued... (Insert your own BCBCS joke here)
I need to get down there to check out the taproom. I've been putting it off for too long. I've really liked all of their various bottles that I've picked up, but at those prices, I have to make them a rare treat.
I am not a big fan of sour beer or Berliner weissbier, but I can heartily recommend a visit. While it is unremarkable from the outside, the industrial, "strip mall" look gives way to an interior imbued with timeless aesthetic. Ancient brewing trade tools and potos festoon the walls of the "speakeasy"-like entryway, and the warmly lit corridor leads to the main hall in which the old Dunck tanks are the showcase. Altogether, there's a palpable sense of being transported to another era of brewing. As it is among the most unique taprooms in the state, I consider The Starkeller worthy of a day trip to New Ulm all by itself -- whether or not you happen to be visiting the main brewery as well.
