I have some bottles of Schlafly Pumpkin Ale. They are al dated 7.30.2013. I have had three bottles and all three so far taste sour with barley any pumpkin flavor what so ever. I have this beer in years past and has always been my favorite pumpkin beer. Now this years is in my opinion, horrible. I have sent Schlafly an e-mail asking aboit this about two weeks ago but have heard nothing back. I was just wondering if anyone else has noticed the samething I have?

    Cheers

Only something you already know; this wonderful beer should NOT taste like that. I've rarely had 'off' Schlafly six-packs, but it HAS happened once or twice. The one time I emailed, I'm not sure I heard back, but it was a long time ago. You might want to give them a quick call at the Bottleworks and see who you might be able to talk to? If you've had 3 bottles, the store might not swap you out another six-pack, but it's worth it. After I had two 'bad' bottles in a sixer, I woulda been returning it for an exchange.

They always reply to me on facebook. Try there. I bought 3 six packs this year and every bottle was insanely good.

I bought 2 sixers earlier this year with a bottle date of 7-12-13. I gave 4 away from the first sixer before I tried it. I also got a sourish, fermented apple kind of taste from the 2 I had. I'm not sure if its always tasted this way but I'm almost damn sure it didn't. Oh well, its way too late to return so I guess I have an off sixer of Schlafly to enjoy. Even like this, its better than 80% of the pumpkin swill out there.

No sour flavors in the Schlafly Pumpkin that I had this year. That stuff is awfully tasty. My favorite pumpkin ale.

I had some for Halloween and it was really good. Not as sweet, spicy and sticky as Pumking.

I have some dated 7-24-13 that I thought didn't come close to last year's. I don't remember them being sour, but I didn't like them as much as usual.
My girlfriend thought last year's were too boozy when fresh, and I agreed, so we put some aside for a while and they were much better in December and are still drinking surprisingly good now! That kinda made me think some time would help them this go around.
I'll try another from that batch on Sunday and pay closer attention this time.

Hey, I've noticed the same thing actually... a kick of sourness on the finish... not sure of my bottle dating but 7/30 seems right to me too... I thought it was just me and, to be honest, I've sort of quit drinking any to see if it subsides or gets worse. If it is infected, im curious to see how it changes the beer. Not saying it is, but... definitely an off flavor there... I may have to pop another one tonight to see if I get the same thing... haven't had one in a little while...

Just some more feedback on this: I have had a couple of different bottles from 2 different sixers, all dated 7/12 as Brutalism had, and they are definitely off on the finish... sour wallop on the back end that shouldn't be there... its this vinegary kick or something... I've got another sixer of the stuff that I think I will hold on to and try a little later to see how it changes... not bitching or anything, just curious if anyone else has this particular bottling or one close with the same thing going on

I bought three sixers a couple months ago. They are all 7/30 bottle date. The first ten were gone weeks ago, and I've been rationing the rest. The first ones were awesome, brown sugar, pumpkin, and spice. I'm starting to detect some of the citrus/apple tartness on the past couple I've had.

    Not bad, just different.

I just finished the last one from my sixer tonight. Definitely a sour twinge on this batch.

This is why pumpkin beers should be bottled and released in October. These are already 4 months old, and it's prime pumpkin drinking season.

I had one single a coworker brought me (otherwise we don't get it in CO) and thought it was friggin delicious. The person who I got it from didn't like it though and thought it tasted funky. The only flavor I could maybe see as being percieved as slightly off is that it's boozy as hell, and I thought it definitely came through more in that beer than others I've had with the same or higher ABV. Otherwise, I thought it was fantastic.

Mine tasted as good as usual. Any variations I detected were small and I chalked it up to a changing palate. After tasting a sour Weyerbacher Heresy, I was informed that can be a sign of infection.

I bought a case. I have a few bottles left, and the last 1-3 I drank all tasted slightly off. Maybe a little tart? the others were fine though so I chalked it up to my tastebuds.

Agreed. The six pack I picked up was horribly sour. I was shocked given the great reviews without mention of sour. I couldn't wait to get rid of it. My sixer couldn't hold a candle to Dogfish, Uinta Oaked Jack, or Aleworks Pumpkin this year. I won't be bothering with it again...
