Wolavers organic pumpkin ale was a real pumpkin ale Like the 18th century. Lots of pumpkin in the wort,no pie spices added. It was the best. Unfortunately they went out of business like 5 years ago.

Hey, sorry to burst your "pumpkin bubble", but pumpkin puree in a can is indeed "real" pumpkin - if you are trying to differentiate between "fresh" pumpkin and canned, then so be it....from a brewers standpoint - I have homebrewed with both canned and "fresh" / baked pumpkin, and there is no discernible difference - other than the extra work involved with cutting, seeding, baking etc the "real" fresh pumpkin.....the ferment-able sugars and taste are the same, regardless

I am a "pumpkin beer" lover, so no worries though - all good....Schlafly makes one of my favorites, wish I could get it in Ohio

    Crazy? Please explain.

Like the 18th century... so it had no malt? How did they get away with putting "ale" on the label? (BTW, that one had spices as far as I know)

The labels (at one point, anyway) said "Ale brewed with pumpkin & spices"...

and the existing recipes from the 1700s, besides using no spices, had pumpkin being used as the only fermentable - no malted barley.

Or as @zid mentioned while I was searching for that Baron's quote...
A little more complicated than that. The contract-brewer Wolaver's, started in 1997, bought the Otter Creek Brewing Co. (VT) in 2002, and then sold out to Long Trail in 2010. Long Trail dropped the organic brand Wolaver's in 2015.

Yes, they are completely different styles, but the flavor profile can be pretty similar.

Well, this sucks. I was told this afternoon that the distributors here have dropped Schlafly and that we won't be getting anything from them from now on.

We got Minhas and Rhinelander out the wazoo, though.

Did anyone see Schlafly's social media posts about 1000 bottles of white pumpkin randomly inserted into regular 6 packs? I super want one, but (and pardon my estimate if it's way off) it seems like a 1 in 10 case kind of thing that I don't stand much a chance of finding.

Saw this... wonder if I'll see any "malt maids" pawing through every 6er in the Schlafly cases at Total Wine looking for one.

"Made with hops, barley, water, and yeast, this hazy IPA has absolutely no nutmeg, coriander, cinnamon, cloves, lemon grass, or any other spices at all. It’s just real beer, for real beer lovers."

    Sounds like any other beer.

I am looking for a beer brewed with pumpkin or other squash that does not have all the pumpkin pie spices.

I had an awesome squash saison that had a great light squash finish.

    Enjoy

I had a White Pumpkin and it was really good. Not a huge pumpkin beer guy, but this was lighter in color and in ABV, spices were less prevalent. A really nice beer.
