ABV: 10.2 | IBU: 25 APPEARANCE: Deep golden with hints of amberPROCESS: Aged in Scotch Whisky barrelsHOPS: Pilgrim, Northdown (UK)MALTS:100% Scottish Optic malted barley Notes from Schlafly: Schlafly Single Malt Scottish Ale is brewed with a single variety of barley, Optic, from the Cook family farm in Scotland (owned by our co-founder’s in-laws). The flavor of the Optic is balanced by British hops for bitterness and a UK yeast strain for a fresh, bready flavor. We age the beer in freshly-emptied Highland Scotch Whisky barrels from the Glen Garioch Distillery only 10 miles from the farm where the barley was grown. Looks yummy!
Sounds spectacular. I've never really liked the flavor of bourbon to begin with, and I'm always a little put off by the corny tartness it imparts to barrel-aged beers, but a Scotch-aged ale sounds much more mellow. I know Brew Dog did a couple Scotch-aged brews that I heard were actually kind of nasty, are there any other promising Scotch barrel ales I should look out for?
The only scotch aged beer I've tried was Black Hole. It was one of probably only a handful of beers I've ever drain poured....and the only other thing I drink besides beer is scotch.
Love the idea, but in practice we'll see... I, too had the scotch BA Black Hole, and it was an outright assault on the senses. Definitely a painful beer to try and drink - and an easy choice as one not to finish...
The idea is outstanding. I love the sources provided for the production of this beer - that makes it cool as shit already. Unfortunately, I don't think the output will exceed the input, I think a scotch barrel aged single malt scotch ale sounds better than it ever actually could be. That being said, I would love to try this beer.
