Not top be contrary, but exactly does solid mean here? If I have a beer I love I say so, if it's world class I say it, using solid seems like a sub for average IMO. Lots of average beers out there, Hop Devill is a solid IPA, but it's far from a mind blowing beer. Not trying to be a dick, but solid doesn't help me decide to try this beer, in fact the opposite would be true.

Good to know. I'll be in StL for Christmas and be looking for excellent beers to try!

Not sure where you live in WI, but you can get Tasmanian IPA just over the border at Everett's in South Beloit, IL - ask for Bryan

Ive always loved it on tap - but I have yet to try it in bottle form. Tap is delicious this year - just had one last week. I'm never very good at commenting on year over year variations on beers that I have maybe once or twice a year... if my memory was that good it simply means im not drinking enough

I don't think the comment you were responding to was suggesting that any of those beers suck. But it's been shown over and over again that it's just hard for a readily-available beer to generate crazy amounts of hype. Heady/Pliny/ZD (and presumedly Abner, as I've not had it) are all great beers, but hype/buzz goes beyond whether or not a beer is great or not. There are other factors involved. I don't think it's unfair to acknowledge that.

And I disagree that it's a foregone conclusion that you have to compromise the quality of your beer to reach a larger market. Just as much as I disagree that one can solely depend on word of mouth as a marketing strategy, in part because of the other factors involved in generating buzz about a product. For every Pliny/Heady/ZD/Abner, there are hundreds of other beers that don't succeed at anything close to that level, and it's a mistake to presume that it has only to do with the quality of the beer.

Solid IPA...had it last night for the first time and the wife and I burned through a six pack in 3 hours as we watched the tube...a really great beer!

I was slightly underwhelmed this year vs. last 2 years. Still very good but not the hop aroma/citrus pow I recall. I'm thinking though it might have alot to do with the Sucks big-bottle release a few weeks ago blowing it for the Schlafly release. I'd bet if I didn't have near-term memory of Sucks awesomeness, the TIPA would have been more enjoyed this week when I had it. That's my theory anyway.

I've had it. It was pretty average in my opinion. It tasted like I've had it many times before.
