Disappointing - I figured that the guy who brings litmus paper to DLD would win this thing easily. Plus, you work in a giant building full of nerds... you should have had a huge friends/coworkers advantage over most of these google jockeys...

Had I not known the cocaine one myself, I wonder how much trouble I could've gotten into wandering around work asking people, "So what's this the chemical structure of?"

I definitely didn't know any of the three for Day 10. The best part about this is learning new stuff, like Quantum Dots for Day 6.

I feel your pain. I actually emailed the picture to some people at work before I figured out what it was an quietly suggested they ignore me. I should have learned my lesson with the MRI... which I also emailed to some people.

Thank god I'm not back to teaching until after Labor Day. I'd probably be turning my AP Calc students on these. I can only imagine the phone calls I'd get.

On the cocaine chemical structure i was so ready to pull my hair out that i actually emailed some random professor in Canada who apparently is a wiz with that stuff. he eventually got back to me a day or two too late, but thankfully i had figured it out. i must've spent 3 hours learning about chemical structures and molecular geometry that day. i was really ready to bow out of the contest entirely and then something clicked and i figured out what i was looking at. interestingly enough, i've since traded a few fun emails with the professor who was amazed that this was part of a contest to win beer of all things. lesson learned about reaching out to others for help when you don't know what it is as cam is a sick mutha. it reminds me of the goonies when mouth is translating to the house keeper.

Vacation stuff. As a consolation prize to me sucking at this the last couple days was finding batch 1 and 2 Consecration on the shelf in a little wine shop. Now I'm going to try this one from the airport, haha!

These pictures are coming too fast. I haven't had the chance to recover from yesterday's yet.

By the way... Pretty sure I missed yesterdays unless you took Brownian Motion as an answer. That pic definitely had A LOT going on. Diffusion, Brownian Motion, refractive index matching, etc... Phew.

Yesterdays stumped a lot of people... brownian motion was indeed going on in the image but the electrons in solution are the real key!
That colour is not very common and probably gave it away for some people
Congrats to the few who got it!
    new scores are up!
2 people are still perfect... lots of 10s and 11s out of 12 as well which is good to see!

Great image and great stumper. Visible electrons is one of the neater experiments out there.

I agree! The first time I saw it done I was captivated! Both by the coolness of seeing lone electrons and by the very cool shade of blue

Not to be a bitch but convection is a description of Brownian motion.

Ah, but Brownian Motion also did not get the points. Had to mention electrons in solution!

    Be specific with today's answer!
It is not enough to say an MRI of a brain.
Not even enough to say it is damaged (hopefully everyone noticed that!)
Where is it damaged, and what symptom(s) might one anticipate in such a patient?

Definitely damaged. It appears to have been sliced clean through.

Fair enough. I forgot electrons were blue:wink:

sad I missed yesterday, but I am still happy with my guess of the iodine test used to see if conversion is complete during the mash stage.

Gonna be quite sad if I miss two in a row...

Triple checking that this is the only information you want.
