It's looking like that might be my answer today. Spent an hour on this already and I'm stumped.

probably not surprising based on my score, but I have to bow out of this one... work has been quite busy the last week or so and I haven't had the time to do proper searching.

but this was such a good idea! thanks for putting it together, cam! I'll be following it to see the rest of the pics and who wins. good luck people (of science)!

Sorry to hear that man. But this does take up a lot of time of the day looking for answers... But your userhandle is awesome for this LIF just for the record. Cheers!

yeah, me too. I answered "single letter protein sequence" that was a tough one. Although I think todays may be harder

I answered: "Estrogen receptor beta in homo sapiens. More specifically isoform 5/6. This domain family is found in eukaryotes, and is approximately 110 amino acids in length. The family is found in association with pfam00104, pfam00105. There is a conserved IPS sequence motif. There are two completely conserved residues (Y and W) that may be functionally important. ERbeta binds estrogens with an affinity similar to that of ERalpha, and activates expression of reporter genes containing estrogen response elements in an estrogen-dependent manner. ERbeta acts as a transcription factor once bound to its ligand and it can dimerise with ERalpha." *shoulder shrug*

Mine was more specific toward the ERbeta, so I have a feeling I might not have...

Details.. I'm a UAW Rep, I like to keep my answers short and maybe a little grey. I have to leave room for future interpretation you know:wink:. I consider CAM the arbitrator in these matters. So far he's been good to me.

The point of yesterday was to recognize it as a protein sequence and identify what the sequence was from.
So that said... definitely many of you got that:

wow I am shocked I am still in this. Work (and social life) has gotten very busy and I figured I was out of the race, though guessing how good some of these other BAs are at this I am guessing I don't stand a chance in the final rounds.

I gave a quick guess for today (most likely wrong). No matter what, this has been fun. I wish I had more time to look into all of these.

Don't be so sure... I'm back to work as of today. Haven't even had time to look at the clue yet unfortunately.

Havn't said it yet, but , Great LIF Cam this has been extraordinarily frustratingly fun. Considering I havn't seen the inside of a science room in over 20 years I'm just happy to be tagging along. How will the finals be ran ? Clean slate for all or a continuation of whats been accumulated so far ?

Clean slate for the finals... but with the preliminary rounds as a tiebreaker...
