This really is an awesome idea.

Took a little while to figure out, hopefully I was right. I am a little worried if this is an easy one though.

Come on guys, I'm a college dropout and knew this one in seconds. Can't wait to beat out all you edge-uh-kated folks. Good luck all. And awesomely fun idea with this.

I majored in communications and I got this one in a total of about 10 seconds. That's really saying something.

Thanks for the opportunity! Hopefully I haven't forgotten everything from my college days getting my degree in integrative biology. Now I work in logistcs so we all know that degree was money well spent...

I will also be giving credit to baconsausage for his answer:
    Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS)

While that was not what I was going for, it indeed is the satellite that took the image of the islands and thus, is deserving of a point!

For this round I will accept answers that simply say "Galapagos Islands" because its pretty close but for future days be sure to put the scientific significance! Not just what the image is! (ie. Galapagos + Darwin (or evolution, or something similar))

another very easy answer. perhaps i underestimate my powers of science as a quality engineer in software. so far both of your questions have conference rooms named after them in my office.

where do we find out if we got credit for day 1? i wrote "Galapagos Islands - Darwin - theory of evolution" figured that was enough, but if you are looking for novels i can do that too...but figured that was enough to show that i knew the picture. went with a similar philosophy of minimalism on day 2, but if you need detailed biographies, i can provide that. just let us know what level of detail you are looking for. honestly, if you can recognize the face, wiki can give us whatever detail is needed, so perhaps the best way to handle this is to just ask if we can recognize the picture. at this rate, i think we will have a 50 way tie for first place.

shame on your earth science teacher. you should've recognized those islands immediately. they look like a sea horse and are as familiar as a picture of italy.

In his defense, the picture was rotated away from due north. Haha that's actually what caused me problems at first...

yeah at first i thought it was cells under a microscope and then i saw what he did and said duh...

my AP earth science teacher would be proud of me (for the first time).

Hope I'm not one of those people who thinks they got it in 10 seconds and was totally wrong. Will there be partial credit?

My answer as well. I wrote that it was Isabela/the Galapagos Islands, though.
