I grabbed some 2007 Samael for $3.99. Figured 5 yr old strong beer should age well. Did I get a great score or bust?

14.5%abv... I'd say score. Only real way to find out is to drink it!

<$4 is worth the price of admission

Massive score. Had a 2005 that was quite amazing. Also, that's a steal at that price.

score. great price, and tastes good "store-aged" for several years in my experience.

I brought 05 samaels, the beast, and the other one in that series to a tasting last year and everyone thought it was awful....just my 2 cents.

I just bought a bottle of 2007 The Beast recently, and it was very tasty. I would say you scored

Definite score. I had a 2009 recently and it was still very hot. 2007 should be close to ready.

Tried it last night. Was delicious. The alcohol taste faded away beautifully. Tasted a lot of fruit up front with a woody oak finish. Very easy drinking. Kind of like an english barleywine.

A huge beer like that for <$4 is almost certainly a score, especially since it is such an old vintage. Enjoy!
