What would you recommend for a beer that will resemble the flavor profile of scotch the most? Something I could enjoy as a sipper with a late night cigar. The bourbon barrel aged brews are good but sweeter than I am looking for and no smoky backbone. Is there anything out there that comes close? A rauchbier? A smoked porter? Any scotch/craft drinkers out there that have found a good one?

Schlenkerla Urbock. Michael Jackson described Schlenkerla's beers as the "beer world's answer to single-malt scotch."

Try for Founders Dirty Bastard or Skull Spliiter. Neither are as robust as drinking scotch, but similar malty profiles with some smokiness. Another option would be to find Weyerbacher's 15th anniversary, a smoked imperial stout.

Though not cheap, Tactical Nuclear Penguin probably fits the description best. From brewdog.com:
"This beer was initially double barrel aged for 14 months; maturing in the deep, rich oak of Scottish whisky casks."

rauchbiers, or j.w. lees aged in lagavulin casks.

also, scotch ales made with peated malt, but since not all (or even most) so-called scotch ales are made with peated malt, you need to look them up a bit first (off the top of my head i can think of sam adams wee heavy, hair of the dog adam, ...drawing a blank on more for some reason).

Emelisse RIS on Ardbeg barrels, you can smell the delicious peatiness from a couple feet away, and the taste follows the noes, so freaking good!

Founders Backwoods Bastard, albeit aged in Bourbon Barrels, is reminiscent and and possible as enjoyable as a dram of fine scotch.

What about a scotch that drinks like a beer? Your move, chief.

Glenmorangie Quint Ruban. Very smooth round flavor, the port cask develops on the back end. The sweet malt and dark fruit flavors could be compared to a nice English Barleywine.

If I want a Scottish whisky (blend, malt or even grain) I'll drink a Scottish whisky. If I want a beer I'll have a beer.
    That is all.

STB and TNP both drink very much like a scotch, and likewise benefit greatly from a drop of water to open them up.

Dogfish Immort Ale has very peaty taste. Also Founders Dirty Bastard is very solid scotch ale.

I would go for BrewDog TNP or De Molen Bommen & Granaten.
