You need to make that drive, HT on tap, HT by the case, HF, lawsons. You cn do it from NJ on a longer weekend. Really a nice time and great beer and food. I do it 2X a year from NC, look forward to it. And no beer a mile down the road will be as good as what you find on that long weekend.

I have a season pass to Vermont for snowboarding so I do go to VT quite frequently. There's way too much hype behind HT. I've had my fair share thats for sure.

Sculpin is FANTASTIC! I can get the bombers and the 6-pack bottles, wish I could get the cans. I've never paid more then $14 for a 6-pack, worth every penny. The melon smell from a snifter is almost identical to Maine Beer Co.'s "Another One." I'd drink either daily, if admitting to daily drinking was socially acceptable.

Great beer, but the rating would have expect more.

The bottles were never purged right and a little bit too much o2 was getting in there causing the beer to fall apart too fast. Scuplin cans however are perfectly purged and sealed and at $2.50 a can I will put it up against most year round IPAs.

All prices from Total Wine in Norfolk, VA...

    http://www.totalwine.com/eng/categories/beer

    Founders DT - $10.99 (4-pack)
    GF West Coast IPA - $10.99 (4-pack)
    GF IIPA - $6.99 (22 oz)
    Burton Baton - $13.99 (4-pack)
    Bell's Two Hearted - $9.49 (6-pack)
    FW Union Jack - $12.99 (6-pack)

    Sculpin - $10.99 (22 oz)
    Sculpin - $16.99 (6-pack)

    Bell's TH - $1.58 per beer
FW UJ - $2.17 per beer
    DT - $2.75 per beer
GF WC IPA - $2.75 per beer
    Sculpin - $2.83 per beer
    BB - $3.50 per beer

    GF IIPA - $6.99 (22 oz)
    Sculpin - $10.99 (22 oz)

With the exception of Burton Baton, Sculpin is the pricier beer, and by my own personal tastes, compares unfavorably with other IPA's/DIPA's.

    A shame Bell's Two-Hearted isn't available...

Can't say it was the first day, but probably within the first month it was at Binny's I picked some up and was severely disappointed. Drank every bottle of the sixer over the course of a couple weeks hoping it was going to be the one that made me say "wow, that was great beer" and ended up dropping the last into recycle with a "meh". Sounds like I need a trip to San Diego to make a proper judgment...

yeah it may be a little over priced but this beer is the perfect depiction of a west coast style hop bomb.... this beer is awesome in everyway, so good to where the price doesn't matter...my top 10 definetley. Im just glad its stocked in south jersey all the time. and several bars have it on tap. This beer is highly rated on here....and gets awesome feedback from everybody...why would they NOT price it high.

We get pretty fresh beer from them, it's just not that great. I've had multiple times in CA, less than a week old, and I just don't get the hype for this beer.

    Oof. I pay $13.99 a 6 in NJ and it's 2 weeks old. $2.33/beer.

I don't think so, but living in San Diego ensures a steady supply of fresh and (relative to other parts of the country) inexpensive Sculpin. If I lived elsewhere, I'm sure I'd drink the best local beer instead of coveting a past-its-prime and expensive beer from another part of the country.

~16 per sixer equates to about .22 per oz. If Sculpin was only available in bombers at $5-6 per bottle (a la Hop Stoopid) this thread would never have been posted ::shrugs::

Is this thread a joke or something? Sculpin is an amazing IPA that is consistently fantastic! It's rated as the number one IPA in the world for a reason. The price is another thing. No, priced like Torpedo it is not. However, to question it's quality is another thing all together.

I didn't like this beer enough to buy it again at those prices.

Too expensive out here on the east coast (in New York anyhow). I've bought it to try but at $18 a sixer I won't go there again. There's other offerings that are just as good for far less $.

Not the "most hyped" but it's over hyped for sure.
