I just had an epiphany. Why am I So obsessed with obtaining non distroed IPA's sold outside of MN when I can drive a mile from my house and pick up two whales from Ballast Point & Bells. I just got a message from beer advocate that I've been a member for 8 years. I remember 8 years ago how hard it was to obtain great beers...now we are spoiled.
LOL. Having a sculpin right now and it is perfectly dank and balanced with tropical notes I can actually detect. I'd take it over abrasive or hop slam any day.
That is an unfair comparison as Abrasive and Sculpin are not even the same style. That being said I would prefer Fresh Squeezed IPA over Sculpin and definitely over Two Hearted
More like Ballast point DIPA El Dorado vs Abrasive vs Hopslam which I did last weekend. Usually in blind tasters you can be surprised with what is what but these were easily detectable. I had it Abrasive a clear #1.....the other two I preferred Hopslam but two different beasts...if you like more piney hop load then El Dorado is the pick..
Exactly...it is definetly IMHO...everyone has different tastes. I don't prefer dipa's. Heady, abrasive, hops slam, I've had them all and the bitterness is overwhelming. I'd take a pseudo sue, zombie dust, etc... Any day of the week.
I'm starting to get confused. From your OP of walking down the street for sculpin and two hearted to your latest post of chasing the wales of sue and zombie dust, I'm not sure what your message is???
So, is this thread about Two Hearted and Sculpin, or people just listing their favorite IPA's? Or... the OP is just drunk and it's neither? I, for one have noticed a similarity between Sculpin and THA. Sculpin is more citrusy, and Two Hearted has more prominent malt notes, but they seem to be each others' cousin. Maybe it's just because they both have a fish on the label?
I'm going to start comparing my beers based on $/oz instead of style. I think this is the way to go. Yes, I'm drunk...courtesy of dark horse plead the 5th, hopslam and abrasive.
I think that is the distributor taking a lot off the top, thus raising the prices of Ballast Point beers here in MN. Price-wise I'd rather drink Two Hearted.
I never have a message your right it was a bad choice. I should have said let it ride, Furious, etc..
I know that everybody is hot and heavy for Sculpin, but have you had Big Eye? It is the one beer that has everybody calling out Ballast Point on their pricing of Sculpin. Better IPA, better value, same abv and same basic COGs to brew.
