Greetings West Coasters, my wife is going to be staying very close to Sea World for a conference & was wondering if there are any decent places to go within walking distance. Looks like there's a ton of stuff a bit south along the coast but she'd prefer not to cab if possible...any hints would be appreciated (I know I'd be in a cab to Ballast Point or Green Flash in a second!). Thanks.
Nothing really right at Sea World to speak of. Pizza Port OB and OB Noodle house are your best bets, but still ~2-3 miles away.
While not the greatest part of SD's beer scene, you will be able to walk to plenty of bars along Mission Blvd. and/or Garnet to find some good (not great) pints. My favorite among the close bars is http://www.amplifiedales.com/ - usually a solid tap list and a few decent brews of their own on occasion... plus an open deck with some ocean views. Beyond that I would look toward OB (Pizza Port) and for breweries Modern Times and Stone Liberty Station are not too far. You could rent a beach cruiser and make for a fun day as well - Enjoy!
Pizza Port OB is your best bet. Besides their own great beers, they will have some excellent guest taps. There is probably close to 40 taps. But, it is a very short cab ride. Otherwise, most of the decent hotel bars will have some good local taps; unfortunately, all the breweries that those types of bars are likely to have are the same breweries that already distribute in MN (Ballast Point, Green Flash, Stone).
as a resident of OB, and can see sea world from my balcony, a few of my favorites within walking distance are obviously pizza port, also Raglan Public House, which is a new zealand burger joint with always great taps. as well as Sessions Public, a gastro pub with interesting taps and bottles.
Thanks for the responses all...sounds like Pizza Port OB is the winner based on her tastes, but it's nice to have options!
oh and i failed to mention that raglan public house is literally a block and a half from pizza port so both are easily doable
Depending where specifically she's staying those places in OB could be a decent walk. Not saying it's not doable but you might want to map them out. Great suggestions though and worth checking out. A cab ride would only be about $5 if I had to guess.
Well, thanks again for the recommendations, she ended up hitting Pizza Port (twice!) & then Raglan last night. Just wish I could have been there too, rather than staring out the window at seven inches of fresh-fallen snow.
