    Anyone with an interest in the local brew scene here in NH may want to check out what I did with my entire Sunday...working on this blog. I think it's good stuff and many of you might enjoy it if you haven't made it out to these micro breweries in and around Portsmouth or have been following their progress to date. http://thirstproductions.com/seacoast-breweries/

    Rather than pick a brewery and then justify why it is "best all around," I'll instead draw attention to the fact that it's a rather long list of breweries for a small demographic area. Meaning: we're really spoiled with lots of good beer around here. And that, my friends, is worth drinking to. Cheers.

    Also, to be fair, you should add 7th Settlement and SoMe.

    C'mon, not even close - Smuttynose. Been around a long time & still makes great beer - better with the new brewery too.

    I'll vote Smuttynose for now given their breadth and overall quality. I'd be hard pressed to vote anywhere else. Despite many good breweries, I'll stick with the stand-by for now.

    Is there a reason that Smuttynose and Smuttlabs are separated?

    They are basically two separate entities with the same ownership. Towel Farm does all the production stuff and Charlie gets to do his Smutlabs stuff at the Heritage Ave spot and has carte blanche....

    I love this thread....not for the poll. But to show everyone how awesome the seacoast beer scene has become. The term spoiled doesn't even come close! Within 10 miles from my house in Portsmouth I can hit 11-12 breweries/brewpubs (Pbrew should also be included with 7th Settlement and SoME). That is pretty awesome for any area that isn't a major metropolitan area!

    Charlie doesn't have carte blanche. :wink: We have a team of individuals (brewers and sales alike) that work on Smuttlabs. Charlie has a lot space to create beers, but he, Joe, Tyson, Eric, Hannah and AP aren't doing things in a vacuum.

    Sorry, wasn't trying to say Charlie ran the entire show as a one man band, just that Smuttlabs has freedom to do things completely independent of the beers Smuttynose brews at Towel Farm. Thanks for clarifying!

    I just wanted to be clear. We DON'T want something like that going to Charlie's head. I also wanted to give a shout otu to the other Smuttlabs folks. They work hard and do a great job.

    Interesting. Prodigal was from up in Freedom I believe? ossipee? Im gonna say not so mich Seacoast. Ive found their beers quite inconsistent, some good, some really yeasty and homebrewy. But thats my opinion

    "Not Seacoast". Alpine? Mountain? Lake/Mountain? Border? Middle East?

    Um, one of a kind? >;}

    I'm convinced now - I shall do a tour some Saturday this fall. What are growler laws in nh and me re: proprietary glass? This could get to be expensive if I had to by new glass for breweries I won't be hitting all that often and would love to use the jacks Abby, trillium and tree house glass I've got on hand. Thanks for any quick tips and pardon my laziness for not digging into research. Hell, maybe it will even inform a few other ba's looking to do a circuit in the sea coast. Thanks!
