outside of the usual English blends, I have never been too big into mixing beer. tonight though, I stumbled into something exquisite. I had about 4 ounces of Sierra Nevada's impressive narwhal left in the bottom of my 10 ounce glass, when I had the idea to fill the glass back to the brim with Upslope's pumpkin. wow! the vegetative pumpkin flesh and the unsweetened cocoa notes just married like highschool sweethearts, and the weight of the stout got fresh legs with the effervescence of what I can only describe as one of my favorite pumpkin ales. a perfect merger really. it is the quintessential October black and tan! anyone else have favorite black and tans that fit a certain season? or any happy accidents like I had tonight? really curious what people have to share! THANKS
I mixed ghoul fuel and prairie bomb with interesting results. Some colorado ba's have been known to make uncle jacobs and rumpkin bombs, pretty sure those will fuck your night up pretty bad though.
Usually about 60/40 pumking, but I would recommend tweaking if you want more of pumpkin spice flavor.
Just recently I floated a SN Tumbler on a local IPA- Monkeynaut- with fantastic results. It was great! Separated nicely at first and the flavors really worked well together.
fair enough mate, forgive my improper nomenclature, in my head they're all black and tans, and I know how wrong that is. thanks for keepin me straight! whats your favorite blend?
I'm thinking of "black and tan"-ing the He Said/He Said, after I've tried them solo. I've never layered beers before, so we'll see how that goes... This, of course, after I've cleared my sinuses of this damned cold! I'll let you all know how it turns out.
Have enjoyed a guinness-white beer (Port City Optimal Wit) this summer. Longtime consumer of the traditional guinness-smithwicks/bass combo & have enjoyed yuengling's bottled offering (despite the name) in the past. Lots of folks I know are loving guinness-sam cherry wheat. I liked it fine for one, but would go lambic if I wanted more. For the nomenclature, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_and_Tans for a nutshell view. In Ireland, folks ordered a half and half. Enjoy the mixing & matching!
Picked up a quart of Mississippi Mud the other day and now I'm hooked on the idea. Does anyone have any suggestions for mixing at home? Thanks!
I love mixing this time of year and last night there was Storm King and Dirtwolf in the fridge so I couldn't resist Highly highly recommended
