I wanted to track down some of the better brews from the Seattle/Washington State area for the Super Bowl and have some questions? Some beers are obvious -- BBomb, Kentucky Dark Star and although I don't think many folks liked it, that 12th Can beer I saw on my trip. What are the non-obvious ones? Does Fremont fill 32 oz growlers? What if anything (besides the BA Stout) does Reubens Brews bottle? What about Black Raven? Do they have any bottles available now? Thanks in advance for any advice. Go Hawks
Reuben's bottles Roggenbier, Imperial Rye IPA, Imperial IPA... not sure what else. They're easy to find around Seattle, bombers only. Black Raven bottles aren't so common. I've picked up Wisdom Seeker, Pour Les Oiseaux, Beaktweaker, and Hochzeit in bottles but they're by no means common. Not sure if Fremont fills 32oz growlers. But they make lots of great beer and it's easy to find everywhere, in cans. If you can get some Bale Breaker (Topcutter, Field 41, etc.) that would be a great choice for an up-and-comer. They're available in cans but you'd need to get them from central or eastern Washington. Elysian Dragonstooth or Immortal would be good choices; probably a few others. I liked Space Dust and Superfuzz but those might be all gone by now. Pike Extra XXXXX Stout is good, as is their Space Needle IPA when fresh. Schooner Exact 3-Grid is OK. Silver City Imperial Stout. Snoqualmie Falls Steam Train Porter or Wildcat IPA. Skagit Trumpeter. Sound makes a number of tasty beers, I really liked Ursus Spelæus. Lots of choices.
Fremont will do 32 oz. fills. They've done it for me before. There's also the 12 Man Pale Ale from Dick's Brewing in addition to Hilliard's 12th Can. I've got ten cans of Bale Breaker for the Super Bowl. Oh yeah! #onlyWAbeer
This was my drink of choice for the last game. Drank all six in three quarters and barely had a buzz. I thought I had defective beer. Then I looked at the last can a little more closely. 4.5% ABV. And......because I am superstitious about these sort of things.....I will be doing it again in a few weeks. Wearing the same clothes of course.
Raven is bottle releasing Old Birdbrain barleywine on Sat, they just released Grandfather Raven (my rally beer last game) so there may be some in shops, not certain. Fremont filled a 32oz of the Sister for me last night. I would also recommend a growler of most anything Triplehorn.
Interesting. I saw this @ the store recently and assumed it was just a repackaging of Hilliard's 12th Can. Anyone want to take a guess when the first cease and desist letter goes out?
That is a really nice beer. I remember lines at the Washington Brewer's Festival being longer than hell because Coco Jones was pouring back in 2010.
One is called The 12th Can. The other is 12 Man Pale Ale. Pretty different. Both beers are kinda crappy "safe" ales, though. Regardless, I drank a ton of them during the NFC Championship game, and will probably drink more during the Super Bowl alongside some Bale Breaker cans. Also, if you follow me on Untappd (SeattleBeerPenguin) you'll know that I've been drinking nothing but WA beers during Hawks games all season. I suggest everyone does the same and uses the hashtag #onlyWAbeer Go Hawks.
If you told me that the only time you strayed from this practice was during that awful home game against the Cardinals, I'd say you might be on to something. (It's only weird if it doesn't work, right?) That said, I've still got a few cans of Interurban I'm saving for next Sunday. And if—I mean when—we win the Super Bowl, I'll be cracking an OBR or something similar.
Every game, win or lose. I'd say 15-3 so far with nothing but WA beers is pretty damn good. And yeah, I'm still debating what I crack open for a potential victory. I did open up a 2013 bottle of Whiny the Complainer when we beat the Whiner-- er, I mean Niners. And draheim, add me on Utappd, yo.
