Obviously the deviations in the study are pretty large but it's pretty common place in Wine for wine makers to list the wrong abv. Higher abvs get taxed differently (not really applicable here) and it also costs money to change labels, getting them certified and such. I have been told by a rep that their abv on their beer was not actually up to date with the current batch citing getting labels certified and the inventory of cans which the old abv was printed on. It was a smaller brewery and now that I think of it, I think the abv was higher.

But they definitely should have test beer outside the stadium as a control. It's basic scientific method. Also, it's mostly Budweiser products...are we really surprised?

And it will only cost you $48!

So Budweiser is shipping lower alcohol Bud kegs- ostensibly at a lower price- to its SoCal distributor specifically for the express purpose of providing the stadium vendor higher margins? I know well about 3.2 laws in some states, but this seems to be an unlikely scenario.

I know Bud and Bud Light for sure, maybe Shock Top. The Bud and Bud Light are regulars at the concert venues we service. I work for an AB distributor not sure about Miller and Coors.

But the best option is to not go to the game altogether! Between the discussed beer issues, other factors like parking, lines, lackluster seats, the cost of the tickets themselves... These days I increasingly find the comfort of my living room the way to go. Nothing beats the beer selection, the seats are perfect, and there's never a line for the bathroom.

I've experienced this too for the Timberwolves several years ago only we ordered Coronas. We had a similar pricing structure as well but they were nice enough to ask us if we wanted limes to go with the beers. That ended up being a nice little $4 surcharge on top of everything else. We made sure every one of those lime slices got put to use after seeing that one.

They are doing under the guise of "public safety", the higher margins are just a bonus for them.

From the San Diego article: Padres officials say lower-alcohol beer, like higher prices, is part of an “alcohol management plan,” meant to keep fans from overindulging. They also say it's common practice in the sports industry and hardly limited to Petco.

Did they also measure the ABV of the beers bought at stores?

I could see this being done for beers with higher alcohol contents though. At Petco they sell Speedway, I wonder if that's watered down too.

That's amazing. I would throw down 12 bucks for a glass of speedway at the ball park in second. Only 2 bucks more than bud-water. Watering it down would be sacrilegious though. I bet AleSmith would pull it if they found out.

My friend has been working the games at Qualcomm for almost 10 years, she had always told me to get the bottled/canned stuff.

Absolutly true, my friend works there. It is all about money.

Me too! Best is when friends with kids go too, craft cans in the diaper bag.
