So I have noticed lately that I'll try a beer and get a good feel for it flavor wise. I'll go a day, then try a second from that six pack and get new flavors I never picked up on the first round.

Is this common? Does anyone else find this happening ever?
Any ideas why I taste more subtleties the second time around?

Perhaps you just missed them the first time, it happens. It happened to me with prima pils the other week and I'm glad it did.

It's like watching a movie and catching something that you didn't see the first time

Take notes from each round, your palette is developing and evolving. After many years I still find myself refining my reviews with certain beers. The fact that you detected a difference the next time around is a step in the right direction. ...It also depends on what slapped your palette prior to the tasting. Are there certain food items you sampled prior to the beer that might skew the taste a little bit?

I've had something different happen to me when drinking some 6ers of IPAs like celebration, racer 5, and lagunitas 1-2 of the beers are more boozey than the others I don't get it. they are all in the same condition its just strange. When it first happened with racer 5 I thought it was just the beer but when i drank the third one (each on different nights without prior drinking) the alcohol wasn't present and it tasted like I would expect it to. its wierd

Where you been, man? It happens pretty much 100% of the time. I usually treat the first one or two from a sixer as an introductory run-through, getting a feel for where the brewer is going with that particular brew (power or subtlety, traditional or inventive, etc.) but by the last one I generally have a good handle on it. Sometimes I'm not so crazy about the first but it grows on me, sometimes it's the opposite, but that's where a lot of the fun lies- in getting pleasantly surprised every now and then.

I've got to agree that I like the small differences I pick up on, it's just odd.
I hadn't eaten anything prior so that wouldn't have done it. Possibly just the time of day and everything allowed my palate to open up...

It happens to me over a few months instead of so quickly, usually if I revisit a previous beer after two months or so it tastes way different than I thought?
