Second runnings from mash beer

    I don't consider it a batch sparge, because I'm not draining first runnings and then adding sparge water. I consider it a form of "no sparge" because the total homogeneous wort volume is run off at once.

    Doing this tomorrow glad I saw these comments. Was curious on what to do with first running. I was gonna recirculate the first runnings only to get things moving for about 10 minutes then just drain off to brew kettle. Then for the porter making with second running heat the desired amount of h20 to bring the mash to 168. Then re- circulate a bit add to first runnings if needed otherwise BAM two beers one batch?

    sound reasonable?
