Almost all the beer I have consumed with age on it has had sediment of some kind left in the bottle.I was given a 2016 KBS that had no sediment at all.The bottom of the bottle looked like a brand new bottle. Does anyone have a guess as to why this particular bottle was so clean? I don't know the conditions this bottle was stored in and the beer was fine as far as carbonation and lack of oxidation. It did taste like watered down bourbon to me so I would recommend drinking KBS fresher.

I do not know the answer to your question, BUT, I will say that I have not experienced sediment with everything aged. A great example of that is Bourbon County. At present time, I get absolutely no sediment until I hit 2011. From 2011 and further back is where I get sediment - here in the form of a sort of gloopy “sludge.”

I think stouts are less prone to it due to the viscosity, but maybe I am wrong. The only thing that I can say for sure is that the greater degree of clarity there exists when holding a beer up to the light, the more sediment I tend to get (on average). Barleywines are an outlier - always sediment with a BW in my experience, even at like, 2 years.
