https://www.sedonataphouse.com Noticed that this place is going up at Big Beaver and Livernois, they are advertising 500 beers with 50 of those being on tap. Haven't heard a whole lot about it up until now but I learned that they have additional out of state locations. Sounds similar to the World of Beers concept and the location reviews on here seem favorable. Looking forward to having a good craft beer option in Troy.
That's a mile from where I grew up and where my Mom still lives. I was just back there a couple weeks back and didn't notice it, though. It's crazy how that stretch of Big Beaver has changed so much over the past 5+ years. I checked out the beer list for a couple other locations and it looks pretty solid. I won't be back in the area until Christmas, but I may have to check it out.
I spent 3 nights in Sedona AZ last year, and must say that there was no taphouse there, or good beer. The name is an oxymoron to me.
I live about a mile from this place and this is the first I've heard of it. I guess because it's a tenth of a mile farther than the turnaround I take to go to work. Crazy how that makes such a huge difference lol. Guess I'll venture further east when it's open!
We have been to the Sedona Tap House in Charlottesville many times. Really good beer list with a good emphasis on locals. Food has been above average as well. Not sure how good the execution will be in your area but I'd be cautiously optimistic at a minimum.
STH originated in Richmond, Va (Midlothian actually) then expanded to other areas in the state and has recently started expanding outside the state. I have been quite a few times it's pretty good. (No I do not work there or am affiliated in any way other than being a customer) They have a solid taplist which you can see on untappd since their locations are verified venues. They do have some great deals. On Thursdays each week the ones in VA (Richmond and Charlottesville for sure) do 1/2 off all growler fills of any of their 50+ taps. This would honestly be the only day I would even consider filling a growler from them since their 1/2 off is more like standard pricing from at a non-restaurant. But they do get some good stuff and do lots of Tap Takeovers. On Sundays they do a free beer school for an hour where there's either a brewery rep or one of the staff talks about beers on whatever the topic of the school is and of course free tastings. Mondays they do what's called Steak Out for Charity where it's $6 for a flat iron steak (8oz I think) and mashed potatoes and a portion of the sales each month go to a selected local charity. Their Happy Hour used to be from 3-6 every day where every single beer (taps and bottles) were 1/2 off along with appetizers and that was probably the best deal in town. I think that recently changed to where the 1/2 off is only for selected taps/bottles and not all of them. On Wednesday it's Wine Down Wednesday where all bottles of wine are 1/2 off. I don't do wine but I'm guessing this is similar to the growler fills where the 1/2 off cost is more like a normal bottle in the non-restaurant setting. A couple times a month they often celebrate "local heroes" where if you are a first responder (fire, emt, police, etc) or teacher they give thanks to them by offering free lunch (usually flatbread pizza or some sandwich) from like 11am-2:30pm Overall, I really enjoy the times I've visited STH and you guys are in for a real treat. I almost always go for the Kobe sliders when I visit and my wife loves their flatbread pizzas.
Alright, starting to get a bit excited after reading these two posts. Appreciate you sharing what the other locations have been like! I'm hoping the steak out charity deal makes it over to this location.
Looks like the Troy location opened just recently. Being from Virginia where STH originated I'd love to know what anyone who has been there thinks of the place. http://www.crainsdetroit.com/articl...morning&utm_campaign=cdb-michmorning-20170116 EDIT: And it also looks like the Troy location is a Verified Venue on Untappd just as their other spots are....in case you are curious what they have. Taplist last updated Tuesday.
I'm thinking about checking it out this weekend since it's just a mile from my Mom's house. I think they had some pretty good BA stuff on recently - I thought I saw a post from one of the MI breweries about taking stuff there.
Went there twice last week. Solid tap list. Not sure what's still there but worth the visit regardless. Food is awesome for a chain
I went there opening night and wrote a review. Nice place. https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/48000/
Neat spot. Great tap list, great food, and cool decor. Happy hour prices are killer. Can't wait for the rooftop patio to open in the spring.
Should probably add in my review as well. Initial first impression is pretty good...extra bonus points for being in my backyard. Beer selection was top notch. When I took the family this past Saturday, there were 50 taps and hundreds of bottle offerings....which lines up with their advertisement. Flights are available for the tap offerings, however, when I tried to order some of the BA beers with the flight, I was told I couldn't. The reasoning behind that was due to the standard BA pours being smaller in ounces already, they didn't want people working the system and getting a flight sample of them. I don't agree with that but I get it from a business standpoint. Food and service were a mixed bag. The waitress was upbeat and stopped by often but did manage to bring me out the wrong appetizer. The app itself was awesome (bacon wrapped+cheese stuffed jalapenos) but the fish tacos I got for an entree I wouldn't get again. The wife said the same thing about the chicken tacos she ordered. But, I know these are things new restaurants go through so I'm not upset by any means. Their food menu is large so I'm confident I won't having an issue finding something else I enjoy. I'll definitely be back, especially since it's so close. Looking to take advantage of happy hour pricing and the steak/charity promo they are doing on Mondays now. Edit: Be sure to keep an eye out for some rare bottles. On a separate part of the menu, they had several rare brews. Things like Black Note, Tweak, etc. Just make sure you see the prices, too
Thanks for the added info. I plan on going there with the family for lunch tomorrow. I'll try to remember to give my impressions afterwards.
I stopped in yesterday for lunch with the family. I think my experience echoes @red94tt in terms of food and experience being a mixed bag. Our server was very green, with us having to tell her who made certain beers (i.e. I ordered Hopslam and her immediate reaction was "Who makes that?" and she did the same thing when my brother asked for a sample of Lizard of Koz). Just a bit strange IMO. The food was OK, we all ordered different happy hour specials (sliders, tacos, flatbread pizzas). Something about the menu felt a bit off...there are no fries (and no burger), which struck me as strange and would've helped with our kids. There was a mixup bringing out my wife's order, but they got it cleared up pretty quickly. The beers lists were great, though. Plenty of more beers I would've liked to try, but only had a Hopslam and Oddside Blackbeard's Bliss. I assume they'll get the service issues figured out as they settle in more.
