Trader and I agreed on a trade but couldn't ship bc of weather and also discussed possibly expanding (made it clear that no matter what, we had a trade with or without expansion). I was a little too relaxed and thought that it didnt make sense to do the trade request until we decided on the optional expansion. He has now gone elsewhere. No trade request made. I guess the lesson learned is that the best thing to do is to agree on a minimal trade and send the request at that point (whether you have a final trade agreed upon or not)?

There was a slight nuance (and I take some responsibility). He still had to pick up a bottle in 2 weeks. I said I would get back to him with a list. He said no rush and we went through that polar vortex across the north (record lows) a few weeks ago. The week following the polar vortex, I sent him a list to see if there was any interest in expanding before we shipped (the polar vortex having passed). Never messaged me that he wanted to ship on any particular day or needed to ship because he saw a break in the weather coming up.

    This is what he wrote:
"Between the fact that it was almost three weeks between the last time I contacted you (1/19 to 2/6) before you replied and the weather being unpredictable and most often bad, I secured the FO in another trade (mainly due to it being relatively warm last week so I pushed for trades that week, not knowing how bad the weather would be this week)."

The biggest problem(s) I have is that while I admittedly was too relaxed about communication (waiting for him to pick up his bottle and the polar vortex to pass), he NEVER reached out to me first before going a different route during a warm week. Does anyone think he is using the long period of silence between us as a lame excuse? Do you think I should share the blame? Is it fair to assume that if you haven't heard from someone in a while, you can dump the deal, or do you have an obligation to at least check in and ask before going another route?

If anyone wants to know who this is, I am happy to share in pm (as well as the convo history) if you want to avoid him.

No harm, no foul, let it go. Especially since you take some responsibility here.

Not much you can do. A couple of weeks ago I had a trade "locked" down for 2 bottles I was going to pick up in a trade, he even said he was going to let other people know he made a trade. I guess I didn't message him back quick enough, the same day btw, and he moved on to a bigger trade even though I was interested in a bigger trade. It left a really bad taste because it wasn't even that long that I waited to get back, but we didn't get the trade request in. Such is life.

I feel like the whole "I thought you disappeared bc I didnt hear from you" when you have a agreed to a deal is not acceptable. Obviously, if the other trader messages you and don't respond, that's a whole different story. An honest person would at least message and confirm. I feel like the other person is just dishonest.

I felt I had him dead to rights on the trade but again, no trade request. I called him out on it but he said I took to long, like 3-4;hours I think it was. Whatever though.

I recently completed a trade that through one reason or another took a month to complete. He was waiting on trustee to pick up bottles. I then was on vacation. I was a little leery at first just because he said it would be two weeks before his trustee could pick up his bottles. We decided to wait on a trade request until everything was in hand, just in case something happened in transit.

We did continue to communicate off and on and actually expanded our trade. We did a trade request on the day we both shipped. So everything did work out but I feel like our communication over the month kept our trade going. It turned out to be an excellent trade.
