I second LaneMeyer's suggestion. Since you're out in California, it should be relatively easy for you to find a Deliverance, and that's a really good sweeter stout. Well, technically it's an barrel aged ale mixed with a barrel aged stout, but it just tastes like a sweet, thick, heavy stout.

Went to a bottle share today and was actually able to try many of the beers you guys are suggesting. Bourbon County was absolutely amazing! Thanks for all the suggestions.

Bastard in the Rye. Find it. Drink it. Love it. Same goes for Southern Charred (that one may be tough to find)

Ojai beverage company is not to far from you and has a great selection. Check it out a lot of BA beers and pretty good food.

You know I had bastard in the rye yesterday at the bottle share and it wasn't too impressive. I think my palate may have been killed by the Black Tuesday and rue de Floyd I had immediatly prior tho.

Do you get Weyerbacher? If so, Heresy, Blasphemy, Riserva, and Insanity are all barrel aged. Tasty and affordable as well.

Many of these I don't think are available in my area but I know Ive seen Palo Santo Maron, Mirror Mirror & Not the Stoic (actually heard these 2 were not so great?), had Labyrinth and wasn't the style I was looking for.

De molen Goths and Vandals I think has a similar profile to the FW beers. Some bottle shops down here in socal have a bunch. I actually preferred it over Stickee Monkee. Otherwise, you have to get your hands on some Bruery Chocolate Rain. Feel free to message me if you want to try a trade for some SoCal stuff.

Mirror Mirror was good, though it'll be better in another year; haven't tried Not the Stoic yet.

Effin Grey Monday from the Bruery. Had this on tap and its sweet aged in bourbon goodness. Its up there in price, but worth it. I agree with the rest, Firestone is my comparison to everything BA stouts. It has its signature taste that makes you want more. Good Luck!

If you are looking to actually taste the barrel and what it was used for, then go with Harviestoun Ola Dubh--any of the three ages. It can be a bit expensive (we retail around $8 for a bottle), but the flavor of the wood and whisky in the beer is more distinct than any of the (lovely) coffee/vanilla bombs that are usually mentioned.

FW parabola and stickee monkee changed me forever, and I would be buying Sucre on a consistent basis if it wasn't 30 dollars :slight_frown:. If only those BBA beers werent so damn expensive! I recently tried Lost Abbey track #8 on tap and it was absolutely fantastic. If you can get it, KBS and BCBS are not terribly expensive, and amazing, but as far as completely available beers in CA go I'd say Palo Santo Marron by DFH is not bad all.
