I love the flavor of vanilla.. im wondering if i take an Old raspy or FBS, put a couple drops of vanilla extract, will it turn out alright? What if I have it sit in my fridge for a day after opening it and putting the vanilla in? Have any of you tried this, thought about trying this, or have added something after opening a beer?

I personally can't think of adding something to my beer. I guess if you really want vanilla the most acceptable thing would be a randall jr with vanilla beans.

don't open it and leave it in the fridge over night; you'll lose all the carbonation.

this is a no brainer--just try it yourself (drop in a few drops of vanilla, or maybe put in a single vanilla bean or whatever). even if people come on here and have tried it and hated it, all you have to lose is a single bottle of old raspy. worth a shot.

another good addition to beer is, predictably, bourbon. splash of decent bourbon brightens up a boring beer.

My wife bought me a tea strainer. Basically Randall Jr. W/o the sticker. I did Old Raspy with Vanilla creme coffee beans and coconut. It was okay. I think the beans made it a touch too grainy. I would do 1hr in fridge with a 1/4 bean or a 1/2 bean. Probably what I will try next.

    Cheers!

No harm in trying it - tons of people add bourbon and all sorts of other things into their beer. Just use a cheap beer to start. I would start with the smallest drop you can eek out of the bottle - vanilla extract is incredibly potent.

Oh, my. Don't mess with beer. What if you incur the wrath of the beer gods? Drink it or dump it, shop anew or learn to brew.

Hey: this winter coming up Goose Island should release their Bourbon County Brand Vanilla Stout (this year was a Coffee year). Keep your eyes peeled. If you dig on vanilla, this should make you happy.

Just last week, I was drinking peg leg stout and was underwhelmed. I brewed up some espresso, added a little vanilla extract (the good stuff, not imitation) and a splash of crown royal and it took it over the top! I have actually contemplated making the mixture ahead of time and keeping it in the fridge for just that reason. The espresso would probably get stale quickly if you didn't use it fast enough though

I'm attempting this with a Ten Fidy at the moment.

I talked to Chuck Silva about how I would put some bourbon or brandy in a GF Double Stout in an attempt to create the real thing. He laughed and appreciated the compliment but was very skeptical about the whole idea.
It never occured to me to try vanilla however.

I swirled my glass with Bourbon and then added ST Creme Brûlée, it was a nice addition.

This is what I was going to say, I would try it with a bourbon extracted vanilla, madagascar vanilla seems to have the best flavor.

I love vanilla and think it's a cool idea, but the beer would already have to have some sweetness. Extract alone may not work. Cool thought though

I've done Maple Syrup quite a bit

Sometimes if I have a boring stout I will put a splash into a glass and top it off with a full can of Ten Fidy.

I'm gonna get flamed for this, but WTF?!...Just drink the beer. If you want vanilla, get a beer that has vanilla in it, or get a fucking latte...
Sorry, gotta play devil's advocate here. No disrespect, but really?
