Just another two cents, but when it comes to "being healthy" and "keeping off the weight" in regards to alcohol it's really two different conversations. If you want to be healthy (read: reduce your risk for liver disease, high blood pressure, and the laundry list of other ailments) then you should not drink more than two beers a day. This also means that not drinking at all during the week and then having 14 beers on Friday and Satruday is not equal to 2 beers/day for a week.

For keeping off the weight, you need to realize that if you don't excercise (mainly cardio) at least 3-4 times a week for 30 minutes each time and eat relatively healthy then beer is going to add to your waist line no matter how little you drink. If you want to drink what you want to drink then you need to exercise and eat healthy. It's really that simple. No matter how slow your metabolism is if you are active and a healthy eater then beer isn't going to skyrocket you to being 50lbs overweight.

I don't want to question your personal life choices or come off as condescending, but are you aware that going gluten-free when you don't need to is generally not good for you? It's definitely not healthier than eating stuff that contains gluten. Gluten-free for people without Celiac Disease is just another uninformed health craze perpetuated by people who don't actually know anything.

Glad you're back on the gluten horse and even more glad that it was beer to bring you back. Cheers.

As for the topic at hand, I drink until I can't feel feelings anymore. Seriously, though, I don't like to get drunk, so I generally stop before then, and most nights I only have one or two beers. I try to only drink every other day, as well, which I think helps me appreciate the beer more: it feels more like a luxury if you don't do it every day.

    right.

Most people associate thin with healthy. I know some people with extra weight who are extremely healthy (low cholesterol, good blood pressure, non smoker, etc) and I know some people who are thin but aren't in great health.

Beer calories are still calories (for the most part... your body treats alcohol as a toxin and will oxide that before carbs, fats and proteins(amino acids)). Beer itself doesn't add more weight than people who dont drink. Excess calories add weight.

I've been trying not to drink during the week and dropped a few pounds in the process. Every so often I'll take a week or two off if I've been overdoing it a bit too.

Alcohol is oxidized well before 24 hours. Only in cases where you have extremely dehydrated yourself from over drinking does it cause impair your body for that long. Basically your metabolism is not slowed down for 24 hours from drinking. slowed down, yes, but only until it has metabolised (oxidised or "burned" as people like to think) the alcohol.

You can have a gluten intolerence and not have Celiac's Disease. My wife has a gluten intolerence and her well-being is so much better ever since she switched to a GF diet.....but, she is in no way afflicted with Celiac's Disease.

Oh, I'm aware, I was speaking as if you had no sort of gluten sensitivity, which obviously I couldn't tell one way or another from your post. For people that are just fine with gluten, it has literally no health benefits and really handicaps your diet. Carry on.

You are correct. No reason to be gluten free if you can eat gluten.

I keep myself to one 12oz, med. ABV beer a night if I drink during the week.

On the weekends I generally have a little more, but still try to keep it to either a single 22oz, or 750ml or a couple glasses at the bar.

I try not to drink at all during the week, limiting my drinking to Fri late afternoon - Sunday late afternoon with the exception of holiday celebrations and vacations.. Of course there are exceptions to this general rule if I've had a crap day and need some beer lovin or I acquire a beer that I have been waiting to try and don't always wait until the weekend.. I'll occasionally have 1-2 beers on Fridays and then 3-4 on Saturday after my yard work is done as a reward and then maybe 1-2 max on Sunday as I'm grilling out dinner..

Generally I'm saying that I don't drink every day and the reasoning is caloric and not wanting to become too accustomed to needing a drink every day..

I probably drink 4-5 days out of the week sometimes less sometimes more it just depends. Really the only consumption limit I have for myself is to not get drunk. If I feel as though it would be unsafe for me to drive within the next hour or so I usually stop. Also if im out to dinner I make it a rule to only drink if they have a beer on draft that I haven't tried/cant easily find at the store( I can find Two Hearted or 60 min all day long for $10 a 6 pack I don't need to spend $4 for a 16 oz draft)

I drink whatever I want Friday and Saturday and rarely have more than 1.. at the most 2 beers during week days. I'll throw the occasional several brews back on Thursday watching the games if I don't have a busy Friday.

I limit myself to a 6 pack a night Mon - Fri and a 12 pack a day on Sat & Sun, so that is 54 beers a week. If that is not enough alcohol I supplement with Scotch or Bourbon.

I just started drinking craft beers(8-1-13), and my self imposed limit is that the 1st 2 beers are ones I have never had. I do try to liimit it to 3. My wife thinks it great I do, eventhough she has never said anything.
