I'll keep my options open. A few beers can build a lot of curiosity.

Selin's Grove, Elk Creek (Millheim), Otto's (State College) and Bullfrog (Williamsport) makes for a nice beer weekend. I just hit all of these this past weekend. If you have the time, you can also hit Gamble Mill (Bellefonte), River House (Milton), and Old Forge (Danville). There is also Marley's and Turkey Hill (Bloomsburg) and Berwick Brewing (Berwick) nearby. In other words, PLENTY of beer in this neck of the woods!

I heard good things about that place also, definitely on my radar...

Was at Selin's Grove brewpub last night. (They are not usually open on a Tuesday, but shops along the main drag were all open late last night) We live 75mins away, but out daughter went to college at nearby Susquehanna, and I just fell in love with the place. I'm a Brit, and this has the best English pub atmosphere I've found.

St. Fillian's 2011 is all gone, but 2012 is still going strong. 12 abv, so needs some respect. Snafu IPA is very tasty, as is the Oatmeal Stout. Have to echo the OP. This is a great place, almost all their beers are top notch, a good food menu as well. Being a small place, it can get a bit packed at times, but that's certainly understandable. The website is much more up to date, and they will even alert you if the beer is running low. The the staff are great. Hope their success continues. Already looking forward to the next visit.

I go to SG a few times a year. Always for the Pumpkin in Fall, and after having it in the summer, definitely for the Kriek. Best brewpub in the state, imo.

Thinking next weekend might be the time to make this trip if the weather holds together. I'm actually pretty excited based around the comments made here. Much appreciated.

I've been looking for an excuse to make this drive for years. Is there any good family oriented options up that way. It might be an easier sell if I could drop the family off for a few hours while I get to enjoy some tasty brews.

During the spring and summer months, Knoebel's Amusement Park is only about twenty minutes away. The Susquehanna Mall is also right down the road, less than five minutes away.

I figured this thread would be a good spot to ask this question:

Anyone know when the Pumpkin will be tapped this year? Is it in the tanks now? I haven't heard anything on their facebook page. I e-mailed them twice and got a response both times. At first, I was planning on a trip out there in September for it but they said they aim for mid October. I followed up about a week ago because I've already booked the hotels and other Halloween tickets/events/ect and the person said she is hopeful it will be and that they are planning on it being ready by then. I was hoping a local may read this and have more info.

I'm pumped to check this brewery out either way but I am a pumpkin junkie and was really hoping I'd be able to try some. Any help would be appreciated. Also, shout out to Heather from Selin's Grove Brewring... great customer service and a very nice person.

    Cheers,

    Dave

Riepstine's making some nice beers, too. Right off 15 North in western Williamsport.

The pumpkin traditionally is released on the night of the towns Halloween parade, this year the parade is on Oct. 15th. Normally they are closed on Tuesdays, but they are always open for the parade. I should see Steve (brewer/owner and Heather's husband) tonight for confirmation. Can't imagine this year would be any different than years past though....

They posted on facebook last week that the plan is to have the pub open with Pumpkin flowing next tuesday (October 15th) after the parade. If the parade is cancelled due to weather, they will not be open but the pumpkin will flow upon opening on wednesday. Their menu appears to have the accompanying pumpkin pretzels so as far as I can tell all signs point to a pumpkin go next week! However, the beer has the final say in whether it is ready or not.

That is great news and thank you very much. I'd be interested to hear what Steve says.

    Cheers!

Sometimes the important details on facebook are buried within comments after questions are asked.

Its worth mentioning that they have a single keg available right now of their pilsner aged with locally grown habaneros. Evidentally it is a spicy bugger that they have been sitting on to try and "mellow it out." I believe they are doing growler fills despite only having 1 keg. Man, I really want to try it but I dont forsee myself getting up there in time.

The peach beer is also flowing and friends have been drinking the hell out of it. I find this years to be almost unbearably peachy and sweet. (I say this and myself dont even know if that is a good or bad thing.) You owe it to yourself to at least try it.

And one last word of advice if you have never been to the pub. Check out whatever the hot food item is for the week. The place is tiny so the warm food items are quite limited. If the warm entrees dont sound up your alley, you need to try anything on the menu with a pretzel bun. (You can thank me later.)

I've gone a few times and find that they are a touch undercarbed for my preferences, though they are all superb tasting. I'd love to try the pumpkin or frambroise, but it's too far out of my "commute" from VA to PA to stop in for just a pint (no growlers for those guys)

Confirmed that the Pumpkin will be on as of 10/15. They open @ 6:00 pm that Tuesday for the town parade, but I wouldn't recommend stopping on Tuesday (town will be crazy with the parade).

Growlers of the Framboise and the Peche when available run @ about $27 for the fill.
